Controller – Annapolis, MD Our client, a mission‑driven nonprofit organization based in Annapolis, MD, is seeking an experienced Controller to join their leadership team. Prepare accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for internal leadership and the Board of Directors. Manage the annual budgeting process, monitor budget‑to‑actual performance, and support program managers with financial insight. Supervise and mentor small accounting staff, fostering a collaborative and efficient team environment. Coordinate annual external audits, tax filings, and grant‑related financial reporting. Evaluate current accounting processes and recommend improvements to enhance efficiency and internal controls. Maintain oversight of payroll, benefits‑related financial reporting, and expense management. Manage banking relationships, investment reporting, and cash‑flow forecasting. Provide financial analysis and data needed for strategic decision‑making, Board presentations, and long‑term planning. Qualifications for the Controller: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or MBA a plus 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally within a non profit organization Strong knowledge of GAAP, nonprofit accounting, and grant reporting Supervisory experience with the ability to lead, support, and develop staff Proficiency with accounting software, such as SAP Advanced Excel skills Excellent communication, organizational, and problem‑solving skills High level of integrity, discretion, and commitment to the organization’s mission
