American Traveler is seeking a travel nurse RN Med Surg for a travel nursing job in Phoenix, Arizona. Job Description & Requirements Specialty: Med Surg Discipline: RN Start Date: 03/30/2026 Duration: 13 weeks 36 hours per week Shift: 12 hours, nights Employment Type: Travel Assignment Overview Shift: Nights, 3x12hrs Hours: 36 hrs/wk Start Date: Mar 30, 2026 Length: 13 weeks Openings: 1 Description American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg night shift position requiring Level 1 trauma experience and a minimum of 2 years of recent med/surg experience. Details Acute care hospital med/surg unit (4W) with 22 private rooms Patient population includes post-op, sepsis, pneumonia, COPD, diabetes, and infection cases Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4-5; no PCTs on unit — a resource RN supports in addition to a charge RN Heparin drips are titrated; no cardiac drips on this unit RT is assigned directly to the unit No telemetry on the unit, but telemetry experience is preferred due to floating potential Charting via Cerner 12-hour night shifts Schedule is self-scheduled 4 weeks at a time; 3 weekend days (Saturday/Sunday) required per pay period Holiday coverage is required based on unit rotation No on-call or standby requirement Travelers are first to float to other med/surg/tele units within the hospital Requirements Active AZ or Compact (NLC) RN license required — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted Current BLS certification required — pending certifications not accepted Minimum 2 years of recent med/surg experience required Level 1 trauma experience required Telemetry experience preferred (may be required when floating to other units) Candidates must permanently reside at least 50 miles from the facility; driver's license is used to verify permanent address 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire Copy of driver's license required for consideration First-time travelers will not be considered Additional Information Candidates must pass the Relias Dysrhythmia (DYS) exam prior to offer confirmation; two attempts are allowed All RNs must complete a pass/fail SIMs Lab on Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes — competency in sterile field technique is critical, as nurses have been dismissed during SIMs Lab for breaking sterile field A pass/fail exam on sterile technique is administered on day 1 of orientation Orientation also includes educational components on lifts, restraints, and wound care Unit orientation includes 2 preceptored shifts Charge RN is out of the count; manager is available Monday–Friday; house supervisor is on-site 24/7 This is a newer unit that is still growing and building its team — some variability in processes may be expected, and floating to other med/surg/tele units is likely Navy blue scrubs required Natural hair color and no facial piercings required; men must be clean-shaven (for fit test compliance) Candidates who have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the past year are not eligible — candidates who worked PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered Personal vehicle required American Traveler Job ID P-678464.
