Job Description & Requirements Specialty: ED - Emergency Department Discipline: RN Start Date: 03/23/2026 Duration: 13 weeks 36 hours per week Shift: 12 hours, nights Employment Type: Travel Job Description American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a combined ER/MedSurg/Swing Bed unit at a Critical Access rural hospital, requiring at least 2 years of experience and certifications including ACLS, PALS, and TNCC. Responsibilities Works in a combined ER, MedSurg, and Swing Bed unit within a 25-bed Critical Access Hospital in a rural setting Patient population includes geriatric patients with dementia, diabetes, wound care, post-surgical rehab, chronic illness exacerbations, and initial trauma care in the ER Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:8 utilizing a team nursing model with CNA/Nurse Aide support on each shift RNs are required to read and interpret their own cardiac monitor strips RNs are required to titrate drips including electrolytes, antihypertensives, IV antibiotics, and blood transfusions RT equipment is limited to patient-managed CPAP only; no additional RT responsibilities for RNs Charting is done in Epic 12-hour night shifts (1845–0715); every other weekend required Floating between ER and MedSurg is required; travelers are first to float Holidays are covered on an alternating basis, approximately every other holiday No on-call or standby requirement Block scheduling is possible but must be requested in advance Responsibilities include providing acute care across ER, MedSurg, and Swing Bed patients, with an emphasis on geriatric and post-acute populations A charge nurse is present on every shift and carries a team assignment rather than individual patients Scrubs are required; no specific color requirement Unit-specific orientation consists of 3 shifts RTO of 7 or fewer days per 13-week contract must be declared upfront; additional RTO will not be approved after that point First-time travelers are welcome to apply No BSN required Requirements Active ND or Compact (NLC) RN license required; pending licenses are not accepted Required certifications (all must be active, no pending accepted): BLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC Minimum 2 years of RN experience required Experience with geriatric patient care, including dementia, stroke, and skin/wound care Epic EMR experience preferred Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility Candidates may not be currently or have been within the past year employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) directly by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity-affiliated facility; candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire A copy of a valid driver's license is required for consideration Benefits High Pay and Bonuses Medical, Dental and Vision Insurance with Day 1 Options 401(k) Plan Weekly Payroll Deposit Free Online CEUs Generous Housing Allowance Travel and Licensure Reimbursements Non-taxed Per Diem and Subsidy Traveler Rewards and Discounts American Traveler Job ID #P-676181.
