Supervisor of Academic Improvement (6th, 7th, and 8th) (3 Positions) Position Title: Supervisor of Academic Improvement Reports To: Director of Teaching and Learning FLSA Status: Exempt Classification: Building Amount of Travel: Minimal Job Status: Full Time Level: School-Based Administration Work Schedule: 207 Days Date Created: February 2026 Salary Range: $65,368.42 to $92,692.42 Position Summary: The North Little Rock School District (NLRSD) is seeking exceptional applications for the building leadership position of Supervisor of Academic Improvement. This newly reorganized role is responsible for the direct supervision and evaluation of Middle School-based staff based on the Teacher Excellence Support System (TESS). In this model, there will be three positions, consisting of a Supervisor of Academic Improvement of 6th grade, a Supervisor of Academic Improvement of 7th grade, and a Supervisor of Academic Improvement of 8th grade. Each will report to a Director of Teaching and Learning and support an entire grade level of students, teachers, and staff in a smaller learning community within the overall complex. Responsible for implementing the district's mission to improve student achievement within each middle school and collaborating with the alternative school. Provides leadership coaching, professional development, and direct support to Middle School-based staff. Responsible for directing and assisting staff with all aspects of teaching and learning, including curriculum, instruction, and assessment. Through a lens of equity, structures, culture, and leadership provide supervision of the general operation of Middle Schools with a focus on improved student performance and building professional capacity of Middle School-based staff. Spends the majority of time in Middle Schools coaching Middle School-based staff for the purpose of developing and refining the skills needed to drive continuous improvement in teaching and learning. Expected to be highly visible in the communities of the Middle Schools and to participate in community organizations, community functions, and extracurricular activities.Will support the campus leadership through its construction transformation into a new middle school over the next few years. Essential Functions: The following duties are representative of performance expectations. The Supervisor of Academic Improvement responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following: Serves under the direction of the Director of Teaching and Learning and supports the implementation of district and middle school academic priorities across assigned grade levels. Provides direct instructional and technical support to middle school teachers and grade-level instructional staff. Supervises and supports teachers and assigned staff, ensuring adherence to instructional expectations, curriculum frameworks, policies, procedures, and standards; advises and assists staff as necessary to resolve instructional challenges. Spends the majority of working time in middle school classrooms and collaborative team settings to coach teachers and staff toward improved instructional practice. Supports academic resource planning and implementation at the middle school grade-level bands in collaboration with school administrators and the Director. Assists with monitoring instructional resources and expenditures aligned to curriculum, intervention, and assessment priorities; demonstrates fiscal responsibility and ethical practices to ensure alignment with state, local, and federal academic requirements. Assists teachers and instructional staff with developing, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating grade-level instructional plans designed to accelerate academic achievement for all middle school learners and eliminate achievement gaps, in alignment with the district strategic plan and applicable policies and regulations. Plans, develops, and facilitates high-quality, data-driven professional learning for middle school teachers and grade-level staff. Supports professional learning communities (PLCs) focused on curriculum implementation, instructional strategies, assessment practices, and intervention supports based on data analysis, research-based best practices, and identified needs. Communicates instructional expectations, academic priorities, and relevant policy guidance to middle school teachers and staff. Supports systems of accountability related to instructional performance, ethical practices, and compliance with district, state, and federal academic requirements. Uses student, classroom, and grade-level data to assist middle school teachers and staff in planning, monitoring, and evaluating instructional effectiveness and student progress, with a focus on continuous improvement in teaching and learning and accelerated academic growth. Monitors middle school grade-level instructional progress through classroom observations, student performance data, teacher feedback, and collaboration with administrators and instructional leaders. Supports open communication among teachers, administrators, and district leadership to inform instructional decision-making. Demonstrates effective time management by prioritizing in-classroom coaching, collaborative planning, and job-embedded instructional support for middle school teachers and staff, minimizing disruptions to instructional schedules and reducing time spent in non-instructional meetings. Actively participates in professional learning focused on improving middle school instructional effectiveness and student outcomes, including analyzing student data, observing classroom instruction, supporting instructional shifts in literacy and mathematics, and assisting with teacher evaluations as appropriate. Collaborates with the Director of Teaching and Learning and middle school administrators to support staffing needs, instructional assignments, and professional development priorities. Assists with recruitment, onboarding, retention, and instructional support of highly effective middle school teachers in collaboration with Human Resources. Supports the implementation of district instructional initiatives and transformation efforts by modeling effective instructional practices and supporting middle school teachers in adapting new or innovative instructional strategies designed to improve academic outcomes. Assists middle school teachers and staff in building and maintaining a positive, academically focused classroom and grade-level culture, particularly during periods of instructional change, increased accountability, or implementation of new initiatives. Provides leadership in instructional excellence by coaching middle school teachers and staff to align classroom instruction with curriculum standards, assessment expectations, and district priorities, while supporting continuous improvement and instructional coherence across grade levels. Participates in and supports middle school grade-level meetings, professional learning communities, and instructional planning sessions, working collaboratively with school administrators, the Director, and other instructional leaders. Stays current on education research, instructional trends, and best practices related to middle school curriculum, instruction, assessment, and data use, applying this knowledge to support teacher growth and student learning. Serves as a support liaison for families and community stakeholders as appropriate to address middle school academic needs and concerns, working collaboratively with administrators to promote positive, academically focused school-community partnerships. Performs other related duties as assigned by the Director of Teaching and Learning. Competencies: Comprehensive knowledge of school-based administration; comprehensive knowledge of school district outcomes, procedures, and organization. Knowledge and ability to lead and coach staff to improve teaching and learning. Ability to demonstrate strong internal and external support for the NLRSD. Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences. Excellent knowledge and understanding of all facets of public school operations. Knowledge and understanding of the change process, organizational development, conflict resolution, and facilitation skills. Highly effective organizational and consensus-building skills. Knowledge and understanding of all policies and procedures of the NLRSD. Ability to conceptualize, initiate, monitor, and evaluate new and/or current programs. Minimum Qualifications: Licensed Arkansas Building Level Administrator preferred, meets qualifications and requirements for reciprocity, or is eligible to hold appropriate licensure. Master's degree from an accredited college or university in a field related to the job duties and responsibilities preferred. Have a minimum of five (5) years of successful instruction or building leadership or equivalent preferred. Experience as a turnaround instructor or building leader is preferred. Have a minimum of eight (8) years of successful job performance in education, including teaching, supervision, leadership, and administration, preferred. Experience with educational accountability measures, including federal educational reform efforts, and state and local assessments, knowledge of systemic organizational thinking, organizational leadership, and change management. Experience working in a highly collaborative environment where teamwork, creative problem-solving, and self-motivation are necessary for success. Experienced leadership in an urban school district is preferred. Knowledge and ability to engage in self-development and continuous improvement to help Middle School-based staff grow as instructional leaders. Knowledge and ability to lead strategic change that continuously elevates the performance of schools and sustains high-quality educational programs and opportunities across the district. Knowledge and ability to advocate for and inform the coherence of organizational vision, policies, and strategies to support schools and student learning. Knowledge and ability to assist the district in ensuring the community of schools with which they engage are culturally/socially responsive and have equitable access to resources necessary for the success of each student. Knowledge and ability engage in their own development and continuous improvement to help Middle School-based staff grow as instructional leaders. Knowledge to lead strategic change that continuously elevates the performance of schools and sustains high-quality educational programs and opportunities across the district. Work Environment: Work is primarily conducted in an office or school setting. Prolonged stationary work and attention to desk or computer tasks are required. This position is cognitively demanding and requires especially well-developed professional social skills and communication skills. Movement in and about schools and office buildings/grounds is a frequent requirement, and the ability to carry or lift items of 75 lbs. or less.
