If you are looking for a new career that will directly benefit the population of LA County, this may be the opportunity for you.Department of Mental Health is seeking qualified candidates to fill emergency Safety Assistant vacancies related to the homelessness crisis.Under the emergency order, applicants who meet the requirements may be hired for an initial period of up to 90 days, with an opportunity for permanent County employment.During your initial work period, you will be assessed on your work performance. This assessment will be weighted 100%.Those who successfully pass the assessment will be considered for permanent appointment to Safety Assistant.Essential Job Functions Assist with development and update of safety programs, policies, and procedures, and propose changes in content based on legal requirements, make changes and submit for review prior to finalizing the updates content. Assist in the investigation and review of injury reports, accident investigations report (AIR), security incident reports (SIR), Covid incident reports (CIR), Ergonomics Evaluations and evaluate the effectiveness of existing health and safety program. Assist supervisors and managers in developing workplace safety procedures and make recommendations for the correction of unsafe conditions and practices. Conduct inspections and review submitted inspection surveys to ensure that workplace safety practices are in place, to monitor the condition of equipment, and to assist in training staff on the correct usage of commonly used personal protective equipment. Ensures that the Department's safety program is in compliance with Federal, State, and local rules, regulations, procedures, and Departmental Safety Directives. Analyze health and safety data submitted by the County’s different programs, develop reports, and make recommendations. Conduct ergonomic evaluations, evaluate and make recommendations on ordering and purchasing ergonomically safe equipment as needed. Obtain and analyze training manuals and other materials for all safety programs. Represent the Department at meetings conducted by the County and other community agencies. Ensures Health Safety Data base is accurately maintained. Assist the Safety Officer on several projects such as streamlining process, developing and conducting training, developing and addressing and monitoring Health Safety standards throughout the Department. Assist the Unit Head on developing plans to address and forecast identified risks with the goal of reducing the department’s level of risk exposure. Perform other Health and Safety duties as assigned.
