TITLE: Application Engineer AM FLSA: Exempt UPDATED: 1/6/2026 DIVISION: Additive Manufacturing REPORTS TO: Sr. Project Manager , AM This position sits in Brighton, MI, and requires travel Summary Application/Support Engineer for Large Format Polymer Additive Manufacturing Essential Functions Ensure successful execution of all assigned projects, exceeding targets for quality, and on-time performance. Operate, service and maintain Krauss-Maffei's AM equipment for achieving high quality prints on demand, benchmarks, material qualifications within expected timelines. Support sales with expertise in 3D design, practical solutions, build strategies and pointing out technical capabilities for meeting customer's expectations. Plan, create, maintain, and properly communicate detailed project schedules and follow-up on actual performance against estimate. Support customers with solution oriented mindset and strategies on the phone, online and onsite to repair, maintain and secure uptime for client's AM machinery. Attend events (tradeshows, open houses, customer meetings) to present AM technology in all matters. Responsible for working with Project Manager and other department managers to help define and understand task assignments and schedules as related to assigned projects. Ensures that job schedules are adhered to and achieved by all necessary personnel. Support Pre-Sales activities by providing time and material estimates and other important information which may lead to winning customer projects. Will be required to visit specific locations/customers at request of the customer, sales force, project manager or management. Execute and manage print on demand orders from start to finish including regular communication with clients and internal needed departments to ensure successful projects. Work Environment This job operates in an climate controlled 3D printing laboratory in our Brighton, MI facility. This role routinely utilizes laptop computers to design and program very large format 3D printers. Working temperatures associated with large format additive manufacturing are higher than standard office conditions, 85-120°F, but are very local to the printing area. General working conditions for design and programming are in normal room temperatures, 68-72°F. Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) is necessary while working directly with the 3d printers. The level of protection will change based on the hazard that is present. Generally, eye and hand protection is required for most tasks. The printing lab area can produce a plastic odor during printing operations. An exhaust system is present to evacuate any odors created from the printing process. Odors do not present a hazard to the employee. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision requirements due to computer work Ability to sit at a computer terminal for an extended period of time. Moderate lifting is required up to 50 lbs. Ability to work in a constant state of alertness required. Expected Hours of Work This is a salaried, exempt level, full-time position with standard working days/hours of Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm with additional time as necessary to complete required tasks. Actual working hours may vary based on needs of customers. Must be willing to work long hours as dictated by the situation. This will periodically include evenings, nights and weekends. Travel Travel is moderate, roughly 25%, and is primarily local and during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be expected. Travel to Germany or other international locations possible for training/conferences. Qualifications Ideal candidate holds a technical degree in mechanical or plastic engineering, with additional qualifications in additive manufacturing. Extensive experience in various CAD/CAM software tools, including Siemens NX CAD, and slicing software like Cura, CREO, Simplify3D, Magics, AI Build, AutoDesk,... Desirable knowledge in milling. Experience in the field of additive manufacturing. Possesses an independent, analytical, and results-oriented approach, with flexibility. Must have a valid driver's license.
