Job Title: Lead Commissioning Manager FLSA Status: Exempt Summary The Lead Commissioning Manager plays a crucial role in the successful delivery of utility-scale solar infrastructure projects. You will lead, plan, and oversee all commissioning and energization activities, ensuring that systems are installed, tested, and energized according to engineering intent, applicable codes, and project timelines. As the primary coordinator between various teams, you will ensure a seamless project transition from pre-commissioning to energization. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Oversee and lead commissioning and energization activities across multiple solar projects. Create, implement, and monitor commissioning plans, testing procedures, and energization strategies. Direct pre-commissioning, functional testing, system integration testing, and final energization activities to completion. Establish and enforce standardized commissioning protocols and documentation workflows. Manage switching, breaker operations, and energization procedures, including grid interconnections. Validate installation and checklists for electrical components, ensuring compliance with requirements. Coordinate and troubleshoot functional performance testing (FPT) activities efficiently. Manage third-party commissioning vendors and specialized testing services to maintain project quality. Support commissioning engineers, technicians, and trade partners during field execution. Review commissioning documentation and track deficiencies to ensure compliance and completeness. Act as the primary interface with the Commissioning Authority, Owners, utilities, and client representatives. Facilitate system inspections, punch list resolutions, and final turnover documentation. Track commissioning schedules, resource allocation, and expenditures to achieve project deadlines. Address complex commissioning challenges and energization risks effectively. Promote a culture of safety, ensuring all operations comply with OSHA, NFPA 70E, and specific site safety guidelines. Provide regular project updates to management and other stakeholders. Encourage continuous improvement by capturing lessons learned and refining commissioning methods. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong knowledge of commissioning processes for solar projects, including electrical system testing and startup. Deep understanding of NEC, NFPA 70E, IEEE standards, and electrical interconnection requirements. Ability to read and interpret one-line diagrams, schematics, and electrical equipment documentation. Skilled in managing high, medium, low voltage, and DC electrical systems. Effective in project planning, scheduling, and risk assessment. Proficient in coordinating cross-functional teams, including construction and engineering personnel. Strong leadership abilities with a focus on mentoring the commissioning team. Excellent communication, organizational, and documentation skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with construction documentation tools. Ability to maintain composure and professionalism in high-pressure environments. Willingness to travel to job sites as needed. Education and Experience Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered. 8-10 years of experience in electrical construction, commissioning, or EPC operations, ideally in utility-scale solar. 3-5 years of supervisory or management experience leading commissioning teams. Proven experience with energization, grid interconnections, and system testing. Experience with solar, BESS (Battery Energy Storage Systems), or wind projects is preferable. NFPA 70E training and OSHA 30 certification are required. Open to obtaining additional licenses or certifications as necessary.
