Join a dedicated healthcare team in the Midwest region as an RN Shift Manager overseeing acute medical services. This role requires a professional Registered Nurse who takes charge of unit management during shifts, ensuring exceptional patient care and staff coordination. General Summary The Nursing Shift Manager (NSM) is responsible for managing the unit during assigned shifts, promoting a safe and high-quality care environment. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Adhere to established policies for patient safety, including infection prevention, safe patient handling, and critical lab notifications. Monitor and coach staff compliance with safety and quality standards. Maintain central lines and prevent surgical site infections according to protocols. Deliver quality nursing care, including medication administration, interventions, and patient/family education. Support quality initiatives by monitoring outcomes, participating in process improvements, and educating staff. Conduct initial and ongoing patient assessments to monitor status and enhance safety. Review and co-sign assessments performed by LPN staff, providing feedback to improve performance. Utilize critical thinking to identify areas needing intervention and guide patient care staff accordingly. Document patient care activities and quality monitoring accurately to ensure compliance. Communicate effectively with physicians, team members, patients, and families to improve outcomes and patient experience. Handle service recovery and follow-up on patient care concerns professionally. Delegate tasks appropriately while fostering teamwork and accountability. Adapt positively to healthcare dynamics and support organizational mission and values. Engage in continued education to enhance nursing skills and provide constructive feedback to staff. Education Graduation from an accredited nursing school is required. A Bachelor of Science in Nursing is preferred. Work Experience At least one year of registered nursing experience is preferred. Certification/License Current RN license in the state or compact licensure is required. Graduate nurses must obtain licensure within 90 days of graduation. American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification is mandatory. Mental/Physical Requirements This role demands considerable mental focus and physical activity including lifting up to 35 lbs, frequent walking, standing, turning, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, crouching, twisting, and reaching. Working Conditions Frequent exposure to infectious and communicable diseases, as well as occasional encounters with hostile individuals, is expected. Minimal physical discomfort is typical.
