Senior LTO Backup Administrator We are seeking a highly experienced and detail-oriented Senior LTO Backup Administrator with extensive expertise in LTO systems. The ideal candidate will manage, monitor, and maintain enterprise-level data backup and archival solutions utilizing LTO technology. This position requires in-depth knowledge of tape libraries, backup software, and data lifecycle management, ensuring robust, secure, and compliant long-term storage solutions. Key Responsibilities: Design, implement, and manage enterprise backup solutions leveraging LTO tape technologies. Operate and maintain robotic tape libraries, autoloaders, and standalone drives (LTO-5 to LTO-9 or latest). Perform regular backups and restores, ensuring integrity and recoverability of critical data. Monitor tape usage, capacity, and health, maintaining inventory of media and ensuring proper lifecycle management (e.g., labeling, rotation, offsite storage). Coordinate disaster recovery planning and conduct routine recovery testing using tape-based systems. Integrate and manage backup software (e.g., Veritas NetBackup, IBM Spectrum Protect, Veeam, Commvault, HP Data Protector, etc.) with LTO infrastructure. Script automation of backup processes using shell scripts, PowerShell, or other relevant tools. Ensure data security and compliance with organizational policies, legal, and regulatory standards (e.g., HIPAA, GDPR, SOX). Troubleshoot tape errors, hardware failures, and interface issues between backup applications and LTO hardware. Work closely with IT teams, vendors, and external storage facilities to coordinate offsite tape management. Generate detailed backup reports, audit logs, and documentation of procedures and configurations. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience). 7+ years of experience managing enterprise backup and archival systems with LTO tape technologies. Strong knowledge of LTO tape generations (LTO-5 to LTO-9+), tape drive mechanics, and media handling best practices. Experience with enterprise backup software and scripting for automation. Familiarity with ITIL practices, data retention policies, and disaster recovery frameworks. Excellent problem-solving and communication skills. Preferred Skills: Experience with air-gapped or offline storage strategies using tape. Knowledge of LTFS (Linear Tape File System). Certifications in backup solutions (e.g., NetBackup, Commvault) or vendor-specific LTO systems. Experience in hybrid cloud backup environments integrating LTO.
