Job Description

A contract position is available for a Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) serving students in a specialized K-12 school environment. This role is based in Queensbury, NY, approximately 45 minutes north of Albany, and supports a unique student population with significant needs. The school serves 78 students across 10 self-contained classrooms, each with an 8:1:3 staffing ratio. The students are primarily level 3 autism, with severe cognitive disabilities and behavioral challenges. Most students are non-verbal and use alternative communication methods. This setting requires an experienced and compassionate SLP skilled in supporting complex communication needs. Position Details: Location: Queensbury, NY Schedule: Monday through Friday, 7:45 AM to 3:15 PM Duration: Start ASAP through End of School Year (EOSY) Contract role Key Responsibilities: Provide individualized speech and language therapy to students with severe communication challenges Collaborate with teachers, aides, and other therapists to integrate communication goals into classroom activities Conduct assessments and track progress for students using augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) Develop and implement communication interventions tailored to student needs Serve as a communication resource within a multi-disciplinary team supporting students with autism and cognitive disabilities Qualifications: Valid New York State SLP certification and licensure Experience working with students who have severe disabilities, autism, and who use AAC Knowledge of specialized therapeutic techniques for non-verbal or minimally verbal populations Strong collaboration and communication skills for working within a multi-disciplinary education team This role offers a rewarding opportunity to make a significant impact in the lives of students with profound communication challenges.
