Job Description

Join a dedicated healthcare team in the heart of the Midwest region, providing essential support in surgical care within Labor & Delivery settings. This role involves collaborating closely with anesthesia providers, surgeons, and other surgical staff to ensure patient safety and efficient surgical procedures. General Summary The Surgical Technologist is a skilled professional who assists before, during, and after surgeries, utilizing sterile techniques and specialized equipment to facilitate successful outcomes. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Assist with surgical procedures, including C-sections, in the Labor & Delivery operating room. Anticipate the needs of the surgical team and demonstrate manual dexterity. Prepare and maintain surgical instruments and equipment, ensuring sterile conditions and proper setup for deliveries and surgeries. Coordinate inventory management with Sterile Processing departments. Apply aseptic and sterile techniques, including surgical scrub procedures. Support unit operations by answering phones, monitoring patients, performing nursing aide tasks, and documenting patient information electronically. Clean and stock delivery suites, OB/Nursery equipment, and related areas. Assist patients with daily living activities such as meals, grooming, skin care, and toileting. Provide postpartum care including application of K-Pads, ice packs, and binders. Collect specimens, take vital signs, and document intake and output. Communicate any changes in patient condition or behavior to appropriate healthcare personnel. Education Graduation from an accredited Nursing, Practical Nurse, or Surgical Technologist program is required. Certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant (C.N.A.) with documented cross-training in scrub-tech duties is preferred. Experience Previous experience as a Surgical Technologist or Surgical Nurse is desirable but not mandatory. Surgical Assistants should have at least three years of scrub experience. Certification and Licenses Completion of surgical scrub training and orientation in both Operating Room and OB settings is required. American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification must be obtained prior to completing orientation. Preference is given to candidates holding Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credentials. Mental and Physical Requirements This position demands significant mental focus and physical activity, including lifting up to 35 pounds, frequent walking, standing, turning, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, crouching, twisting, and reaching. Working Conditions Frequent exposure to infectious and communicable diseases, as well as occasional encounters with hostile individuals, may occur. Physical discomfort is minimal but present.
