Job Description

Technical Material Handler The Technical Material Handler plays a key role in supporting injection molding production by managing materials, color changes, and regrind systems that keep machines running efficiently. This position works closely with production and process technicians to ensure the correct materials are prepared, delivered, and maintained throughout the manufacturing process. Responsibilities include performing quality checks, supporting process equipment adjustments, and managing regrind materials while maintaining safety and quality standards. The Technical Material Handler is responsible for the following duties, including but not limited to: Ensure the correct raw materials are used and the proper silos are assigned to each machine. Review the production schedule to prepare for material and color changes. Maximize the use of regrind material without negatively impacting product quality. Prepare materials to support efficient machine changeovers. Plan and execute color changes while minimizing scrap. Maintain adequate quantities of regrind material at machines for processing. Remove unused regrind from the production area, weigh, tag, and properly store it. Remove and clean vacuum filters daily. Tear down and clean all hoppers, including volumetric and gravimetric systems. Troubleshoot, repair, and calibrate material loading systems as needed. Perform audits to verify correct material and color usage. Clean, break down, and store empty gaylords and lids in designated racks at the end of each shift. Re-weigh and re-tag all material removed from machines before staging. Ensure all reground materials are properly labeled and stored. Maintain separation of materials and colors whenever possible. Operate metal gaylords and dumpers safely. Maintain general housekeeping in production areas. Assist with special projects and other duties as assigned. Assist in the training of new employees. Ensure forklifts and material handling equipment are operating safely and report any issues. Provide backup support for the Manufacturing Material Handler role when needed. Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor. Qualification requirements include: Minimum 6 months of experience as a material handler in a manufacturing environment. Experience working with regrind materials preferred. Strong technical aptitude with solid communication skills. Must be able to obtain and maintain a Schaefer forklift certification. Ability to lift at least 35 pounds. Ability to work 12-hour shifts, including coverage for alternate shifts when necessary. Schaefer Plastics is proud to be an Equal Opportunity Employer.
