Truck Driver/Fleet Assistant 09-26 Operations & Procurement 1124 South Interstate 35 Frontage Road, Austin, TX, United States 22.00 per hour Hourly Full Time The Housing Authority of the City of Austin (HACA) is seeking a service-oriented Truck Driver/Fleet Assistant to join our high-performing team. This position plays a key role in maintaining a clean and organized environment by managing the removal of large trash and bulk items from our offices, residential properties, and other facilities. You will operate various vehicles in diverse weather conditions while contributing to the day-to-day management of assigned properties. HACA has been a leader in affordable housing in the City of Austin for more than 85 years. In partnership with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, local government entities, and numerous non-profit agencies, HACA provides access to safe, stable housing to over 20,000 individuals. What you will do in this position: Debris Removal & Hauling Operations Remove and properly dispose of trash, appliances, and debris along assigned service routes in accordance with Agency standards and safety protocols. Haul appliances, construction materials, and other equipment to support maintenance and property operations. Vehicle Operation & Fleet Support Safely operate and maintain Agency vehicles, including hydraulic boom trucks and pickup trucks. Conduct routine vehicle inspections and promptly report maintenance or repair needs. Support fleet transportation coordination and state inspection requirements. Equipment Operation Operate small power tools and assist with maintenance and infrastructure needs. Maintenance & Facility Support Assist with building and grounds maintenance, including minor repairs and general property upkeep. Reporting & Documentation Complete and submit accurate daily haul activity reports and related documentation. Additional Responsibilities Perform other duties as assigned to support smooth and efficient Agency operations. More about this position: High school diploma or GED. At least one year of experience in maintenance or construction, including six months of operating heavy-duty equipment. Ability to follow instructions, read maps, and perform physically demanding tasks. Strong teamwork and communication skills. Preferred candidates will also possess the following skills and abilities: Proficiency in operating hydraulic boom trucks, pickup trucks ( and -ton), large dump flatbed trucks, backhoes, and trailers. Strong understanding of building maintenance techniques and equipment. Experience with minor plumbing, HVAC, generator, and electrical repairs. Fluency in both English and Spanish is highly desirable. Additional Requirements: Valid Texas driver's license. Eligibility for coverage under HACA fleet auto insurance. Bondability. Driving test administered as part of the interview process. This role requires frequent bending, stretching, and lifting/moving supplies or equipment weighing 50 lbs or more. Work may occur in both indoor and outdoor environments, with exposure to: Extreme weather conditions. Electrical shock hazards, heavy machinery, and dangerous chemicals. Skin irritants such as cleaning solutions and insecticides. Appropriate safety equipment, including goggles, gloves, and boots, is provided and required when necessary.
