The City of Port Townsend is recruiting to fill one opening in the Water Distribution division of our Public Works Department. The vacancy will be filled at either the Maintenance Worker Apprentice, Maintenance Worker, Operator I, or Operator II level depending on qualifications and transferable skills.Full job descriptions available here.JOB SUMMARYUnder general supervision performs a variety of maintenance and repair work to the water distribution systems. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESThe essential duties also include Core Competencies described in detail in the job descriptions. Participates as a member of the Public Works team to maintain of the City's water distribution system including pumps, pipes, hydrant, meters, reservoirs, and valvesPerforms customer service for meter reading, leak repair, and installation of taps and metersPerforms small construction projects including pipe installation and replacementTroubleshoots water system problems and makes repairsAssists with preventive maintenance program of equipment in coordination with the Fleet divisionOperates heavy construction equipment including backhoe, front-end loader, dump trucks, vactor truck, etc., and operates hand tools such as cutoff saws, compactors, jackhammers, etc. as qualifiedTransports equipment with dump trucks and pickups with trailersPerforms minor repairs on equipment and reports the need for major repairsAssists with maintenance and repairs at the Water Treatment FacilityAssists with maintenance and repairs of the Olympic Gravity Water SystemAssists other departments with underground utility workProvides support of other divisions and departments during emergenciesAssists with establishing and implementing appropriate safety programs for staff and equipmentOther duties as assigned Maintenance Worker Apprentice$27.06-30.74 base pay range$27.06-34.43 total pay range including maximum possible longevityMinimum Requirements Graduation from high school or G.E.D.Valid Washington State Driver's license and ability to maintain a driving record acceptable to the City's insurance carrier.First Aid/CPR certification or must obtain within 12 months in this position.
