Job Summary (List Format): - Assists surgeons and registered nurses during a variety of surgical procedures/operations. - Prepares and sets up operating room with surgical instruments, equipment, sterile drapes, and solutions. - Maintains a sterile environment in accordance with hospital policies and AORN Standards of Care. - Performs scrub technician functions for all surgical services and specialties. - Assembles, maintains, and ensures proper working condition of sterile and non-sterile equipment. - Passes instruments and sterile supplies to the surgeon and assistants during surgery. - Holds retractors, cuts sutures, and helps count sponges, needles, supplies, and instruments. - Prepares, cares for, and disposes of laboratory specimens. - Assists in applying surgical dressings and ensures availability of required instruments and equipment. - Aids in transporting and positioning patients in the operating room. - Operates sterilizers and other diagnostic equipment as needed. - Prepares and labels medications during surgical procedures under direct supervision. - Assists in transferring patients to the recovery area and in turning over/restocking the operating room. - Ensures patient privacy, dignity, and safety at all times. - Orients new operating room employees when required. - Works cooperatively with team members to maintain equipment and instrumentation. - Participates in staff meetings, in-service and educational programs for career development. - Delivers excellent service to patients, families, visitors, and co-workers, reflecting the hospital's CARES values. - Performs other related duties as assigned by supervisor. Qualifications: - Ability to read, write, and communicate in English. - Graduate of an accredited Operating Room Technician/Surgical Technician program (civilian or military). - Holds and maintains certification by an accredited entity recognized by relevant surgical and technologist associations. - Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required. - CVOR (Cardiovascular Operating Room) experience required.
