Senior Backend Engineer We're looking for a senior backend engineer to build and evolve the internal tools that power our portfolio management operations. You'll develop Python/Flask/SQLAlchemy applications that handle critical financial data and workflows, optimize complex SQL queries and database interactions, and contribute technical expertise to data architecture decisions. You'll work on systems managing $60 billion in assets, collaborating closely with portfolio management and infrastructure teams to build robust, scalable backend services. This is a high-impact individual contributor role where your technical prowess will directly influence our platform capabilities as we continue to scale. What we're looking for: 7-10 years of backend engineering experience building production systems Strong technical foundation in Python, Flask, and SQLAlchemy with a track record of shipping production applications Deep SQL expertise-you're comfortable writing complex queries, optimizing performance, and designing efficient database schemas Ability to tackle challenging technical problems independently and drive solutions to completion Pragmatic decision-making-you know when to refactor versus when to ship, and when to optimize versus when good-enough is right Data engineering mindset-experience with data pipelines, data lakes, or ETL processes is highly valued Collaborative approach-you work effectively with non-engineering stakeholders and can translate business needs into technical solutions Experience working in fast-paced environments where you balance building new capabilities with maintaining existing systems Required technical skills: 5 years - Python development in production environments 1 year - Flask (or similar web framework) application development 2 years - SQLAlchemy or equivalent ORM experience 3 years - SQL (PostgreSQL, MySQL, or similar) with query optimization a plus Database design and schema evolution Bonus points: Data engineering experience (data lakes, data modeling, data pipeline architecture) Experience with data migrations or system consolidations Excel/VBA proficiency Financial services or trading systems background OMS or portfolio management system experience Understanding of compliance requirements in regulated environments Benefits401(k) with matching contribution Competitive medical, dental, and vision coverage for you and your dependents Remote-first company Flexible PTO Paid parental leave Quarterly performance bonuses Equal Employment Opportunity Statement We are an Equal Opportunity Employer and are committed to creating an inclusive workplace.
