Salary : $74,000.00 - $94,000.00 Annually Location : W63 N645 Washington Ave. Cedarburg, WI Job Type: Full time Job Number: 100-12 Department: Engineering Opening Date: 02/25/2026 The City of Cedarburg is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Engineer to join our municipal team. This position supports the City Engineer and the Public Works Department in delivering high-quality infrastructure, enhancing community safety, and preserving Cedarburg's historic character while supporting modern municipal services. The Assistant City Engineer will be responsible for preparing and maintaining engineering plans, maps, and record drawings to established standards for both public and private projects within the City. This role also serves as a project representative, providing on-site inspection and oversight of Public Works construction projects to ensure compliance with approved plans and specifications. Infrastructure Assessment & Planning • Inspect and evaluate city infrastructure for inclusion in future capital projects. • Assist in long-range infrastructure planning and development of the Capital Improvement Program. • Conduct biennial PASER road ratings for city streets. • Complete the annual road mileage certification. Project Design, Coordination & Construction Oversight • Assist City Engineer to coordinate and oversee the design of municipal construction projects, including plan review, preparation of technical specifications, cost estimates, and contract documents. • Prepare bidding documents for the annual sidewalk replacement program. • Prepare bidding documents for annual asphalt repair and pavement maintenance projects. • Perform construction inspection and field oversight on municipal projects to ensure compliance with plans and specifications. • Assist in reviewing private development construction plans for compliance with city standards. GIS, Mapping & Records Management • Maintain and update utility as-built records. • Update and manage the City's GIS mapping systems and related datasets. Stormwater & Environmental Compliance • Assist with management and documentation of compliance records for the City's MS4 stormwater permit. • Perform annual inspections of stormwater Best Management Practices (BMPs). Public Communication & Customer Service • Provide prompt, courteous assistance to the public regarding engineering and infrastructure-related inquiries. • Communicate effectively with residents, contractors, and stakeholders throughout construction projects to ensure understanding and minimize impacts. Position Qualifications • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field. • Possession of a valid driver's license. • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screening and background check. • Experience in construction inspection of streets, sewer systems, water utility installations, and other work relevant to public works or municipal infrastructure projects is preferred. • Must be able to work independently and provide direction to Public Works contractors. • Must be physically capable of navigating construction sites, including uneven terrain and adverse field conditions, and able to stand for extended periods.
