We are a privately owned commercial flooring estimation company looking to hire a Lead Commercial Flooring Estimator for our growing company. Location: DMV area. In-office strongly preferred, but flexible for elite candidates who can integrate quickly and operate independently (no hand-holding) Location: District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia. (company is head quartered in Arbutus, MD) Work model: 4 days in-office / 1 remote preferred (flex for elite). Travel: No site visits. Duties: No PM duties. Estimating + bid packaging + follow-up only. Primary markets: Data Centers first, then Retail, then Healthcare Core Mission (what this person must do) We need a Senior Estimator who can immediately raise the standard and throughput of our estimating department: Review + actively guide the work of 4 high-level estimators (not passive proofreading). Convert bids from "95% complete" → "100% submission-ready" by fixing scope sheets, assumptions, alternates, and catching omissions (skim/patch, base, thresholds, prep, adhesives, etc.). Personally handle negotiated / highest-win-probability bids and drive them to submission + follow-up. Help enforce standards/templates/checklists that prevent repeat mistakes across the department. Provide overall guidance to 1-2 junior estimators (not day-to-day traini ng, but setting standard and feedback). Throughput expectation: Department target is ~120 bids/month. This role should be capable of reviewing/finalizing ~5-10 bids/day depending on complexity while owning select priority bids. Must-Have Requirements (non-negotiable) 5-10+ years commercial flooring estimating experience, including: floor prep/skim/patch, base, thresholds/transitions, adhesives/primers, VCT/LVT, carpet/tile. Bluebeam + Measure expertise (daily user; efficient takeoff workflow). Strong Excel and clean proposal packaging (scope sheets, assumptions, alternates/VE). Proven ability to operate independently in a high-volume environment (no "training required" profile). Comfortable reviewing offshore/remote work and enforcing quality standards across time zones. Success Profile (what "good" looks like) Catches scope gaps and missing line items before bids go out. Produces clean scope sheets and defensible assumptions. Fast and disciplined: can finalize multiple bids/day without quality decline. Knows how to follow up and defend bids (especially negotiated work).
