Job Title Assistant/Associate Professor of Civil Engineering (Geotechnical) Agency Texas A&M University - Texarkana Department CBET - Engineering Proposed Minimum Salary Commensurate Job Location Texarkana, Texas Job Type Faculty Job Description The College of Business, Engineering, and Technology (CBET) at Texas A&M University-Texarkana (TAMUT) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor position in Civil Engineering, beginning Fall 2026. This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and visionary individual to play a leading role in building and shaping a new Civil Engineering program. The successful candidate will be expected to support student success through high-quality teaching, mentoring, and academic advising; collaborate with the Engineering Department Chair and the CBET Dean in advancing both the short- and long-term goals of the department and college; and contribute to program development through curriculum design, implementation of an ABET assessment plan, and the establishment of state-of-the-art teaching and research laboratories. Eligibility to work in the U.S. is required at the time of hire. No pre-employment sponsorship is authorized for this position. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Teach civil engineering courses and labs as well as selected interdisciplinary engineering courses. Conduct course assessments to evaluate and improve student learning outcomes and program effectiveness. Advise students on academic and career matters. Engage in professional and scholarly activities, including research, publication, and participation in professional organizations. Serve on departmental, college, and university committees. Participate in outreach activities to promote the civil engineering program and engage with the community. Actively participate in student recruitment efforts to attract and retain talented students in the civil engineering program. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: Minimum Qualifications Assistant Professor Rank An earned doctorate (Ph.D.) in civil engineering with a concentration in geotechnical engineering from an accredited institution. A Strong record of active and impactful research appropriate to the rank Associate Professor Rank An earned doctorate (Ph.D.) in Civil Engineering with a concentration in Geotechnical Engineering from an accredited institution At least five (5) years of service at the rank of Assistant Professor at an accredited institution A Strong record of active and impactful research appropriate to the rank Preferred Qualifications Professional Engineer (PE) registration in the United States Expertise in one or more of the specific areas of interest, i.e., computational geotechnics, geotechnical infrastructure/geohazards, ground improvement, infrastructure durability and resilience to extreme events, offshore/energy geotechnics, and transportation geotechnics Ability to teach across the curriculum, in one or more sub-disciplines, including drafting, structural, geotechnical, transportation, surveying, and other related fields. Experience in curriculum development and innovative teaching methodologies. Experience in developing and teaching civil engineering laboratories Professional experience in industry or government agency Familiarity and experience with ABET accreditation processes Proven experience in grant writing and securing research funding Other Requirements Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
