job summary: A Mechanical Engineer is needed for a manufacturing company considered one of the world's leading innovators in materials science in the Wilmington, NC area. This role bridges the gap between engineering design and floor-level execution, requiring you to manage external trades while ensuring all systems meet safety and performance standards. location: Wilmington, North Carolina job type: Contract salary: $31.19 - 43.67 per hour work hours: 8am to 5pm education: Bachelors responsibilities: Provide mechanical discipline support for the construction, installation, and startup of automated systems. Spend the majority of time on the manufacturing floor performing hands-on equipment work. Supervise and direct internal engineering technicians, maintenance teams, and outside contract trades. Manage equipment conversions, including demolition, construction, testing, and debugging. Utilize hand tools, instruments, and measurement/alignment devices for mechanical tasks. Interpret complex engineering drawings, schematics, and P&IDs to aid in troubleshooting. Translate engineering solutions into functional process and equipment designs. Monitor and manage process variables such as flow, temperature, rate, pressure, and level. Oversee mechanical drive trains and both electrical and pneumatic actuators. Collaborate with IT, Mechanical, and Process engineering disciplines to ensure system functionality. Recommend technical solutions and alternatives within established plant guidelines. Lead multiple work streams simultaneously while maintaining a proactive focus on job site safety. Skills: Ability to work hands-on with the equipment using typical hand tools, instruments, and measurement/alignment devices.? Process variable understanding: flow, temperature, rate, pressure, level?. Determines and recommends best solution from a series of alternatives within plant guidelines.?? Translates engineering solutions to requirements, then further to process and/or equipment designs which deliver required performance criteria as well as interpreting drawings and schematics to aid in troubleshooting.? Thorough understanding of mechanical drive trains, electrical and pneumatic actuators.?
