Salary: $20.00 Hourly Location : Hastings, MN Job Type: Internship Job Number: 2026-06 Department: Community Development Opening Date: 02/04/2026 Closing Date: Continuous FLSA: Non-Exempt Bargaining Unit: NU Description The City of Hastings Community Development Department is seeking a motivated individual ready to gain hands-on experience in a variety of city-planning, zoning, economic-development, and historic-preservation duties. The internship will provide specific job skills to enhance your resume for future employment in municipal government. Position is Open Until FilledPriority Review of Applications will be on February 25, 2026Examples of DutiesEssential Duties & Responsibilities: These examples of area responsibilities are intended only as an illustration of the various types of work performed and are not meant to be inclusive. The position description is subject to change as the needs of the employer and requirements of the job change. Work is performed under the direction of the Community Development Director. Hours vary depending on intern availability and department needs. The position includes days, regular Thursday evening events, and some evening meetings. Assisting with the Music + Market Thursday Evening Events Assisting with BR&E visits. Reviewing zoning permits. Reviewing development plans. Research on City Code amendments. Drafting memos for EDA, Planning Commission, and Council meetings. Attending meetings and presenting memos. Working with Industrial Park sales within the City's Industrial Park. Participation in assessing the redevelopment potential of properties. Assistance in Historic Preservation activities. Perform and update the Downtown Parking Study Participate in the Leading Interns Network and Knowledge (LINK) Program Typical QualificationsMinimum Qualifications: Valid Driver's license. Pursuing or a recent graduate with a Bachelor's degree in Economic Development, Planning, Administration, Urban Studies, or a related program. Preferred Qualifications: Enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program in Economic Development, Planning, Administration, Urban Studies, or a related program.
