Job Description

Transportation Trainer Lead the planning, design, development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the District's transportation training programs for CDL and Non-CDL drivers, bus assistants, and transportation staff. Serve as a key compliance and safety resource, ensuring all training, certification, and licensing requirements are met in accordance with federal, state, and district regulations. Collaborate closely with Safety and Training leadership, Driver Trainers, and operational staff to move trainees through the qualification process and promote safe, consistent, and effective transportation services for students. The subsequent duties outline the fundamental operations of the position and exemplify the nature of the tasks carried out. They do not encompass a comprehensive inventory of the obligations and responsibilities fulfilled in this role. Lead the planning, design, development, and delivery of classroom, behind-the-wheel, and on-the-road training for CDL and Non-CDL drivers, bus assistants, and transportation staff, including staff operating district box trucks. Provide specialized training on vehicle operations, student management, safety procedures, and use of specialized equipment for transporting students with disabilities. Evaluate trainee performance to ensure readiness, compliance, and safe operation. 2. Coordinate, administer, and document all required transportation training, certification, and licensing activities, including federal and state written and practical examinations, CDL third-party testing, Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT), skills courses, evacuation drills, and mandated training programs. Maintain accurate district-wide training and evaluation records in accordance with CDE, DOT, and district requirements. 3. Plan, implement, and deliver ongoing and specialized safety and compliance training for transportation staff, including Accident Response Training, CPI, CPR/First Aid, defensive driving, adverse weather and mountain terrain operations, substance abuse awareness, required annual CDE in-service safety meetings, continuous improvement initiatives, and small vehicle/van training. 4. Maintain and monitor compliance records for federal and state licensing and permit programs, DOT files, CDL testing documentation, motor vehicle reports, and required logs. Respond to, document, and file vehicle accident reports and participate as a member of the Accident Review Committee. 5. Collaborate with Driver Trainers, supervisors, and department leadership to coordinate training schedules, monitor trainee progress, identify barriers, and move employees efficiently through onboarding, certification, and qualification processes. Support route, stop, and street safety surveys and deliver student safety programs, including the "Buster the Bus" initiative, at district schools and community sites. 6. Assist with the implementation and ongoing administration of the district's drug and alcohol testing program, including coordination, documentation, and compliance-related reporting. This job has no direct supervisory responsibilities. The minimum prerequisites of formal education, professional work experience, certifications, licenses, endorsements, designations, trainings, and other criteria that a candidate must fulfill to be considered for a position. It is essential that certifications, licenses, endorsements, designations, and trainings are fulfilled, valid, and not expired. Criminal background check and fingerprinting required High School Equivalency (HSE) diploma Two (2) years of CDL driving experience Colorado Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with P and S endorsements Must obtain and maintain the following required certifications within three (3) months of hire: Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) instructor certification, CPR/First Aid Certification, Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) Certification, and Colorado CDL Third-Party Tester License Must meet the insurability requirements of the Colorado School District Self Insurance Pool Must successfully complete special needs training and testing Intermediate knowledge of DOT, FMCSA, FMVSS, CDE, CDL compliance, and the Federal Clearinghouse requirements Proficiency with basic office technology and Microsoft Office applications Ability to effectively train adult learners, evaluate performance, and provide corrective guidance Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills Ability to work effectively with students, including those with special needs Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment, and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrator The physical demands, mental functions, cognitive capacities, and work environment factors required to perform a position's essential functions.
