Job Description

Medical Malpractice Claims Manager Position The Claims Manager is responsible for analyzing, negotiating, and resolving claims, including professional and general liability, for all Novant facilities and physician practices. Considering candidates in NC or SC, or willing to relocate. This position will service Eastern NC. Will need to travel to in the Raleigh and Wilmington areas a couple times a month. Frequent interaction with all Legal and Risk Management staff; senior leadership; department and unit directors; medical staff leadership; Novant physicians; outside defense counsel; insurance carriers, and staff. Coordinates investigation and analysis of incidents and legal claims filed against Novant physicians and entities. Assist and supervises legal investigations related to Novant entities and physician practices. Reviews medical records and associated documents pertaining to incidents, claims, and litigation. Obtain, review, and analyze internal and external contracts and interfaces with internal and external counsel. Interviews, coordinates, and prepares all personnel and physicians involved in litigation. Education: 4 Year / Bachelors Degree, required. Graduate Degree, preferred. JD, MBA, MS in Nursing Allied Health or MHA preferred. Experience: Minimum of ten years health care experience with five years professional liability claims experience, required. Medical malpractice claims experience, required. Licensure/Certification: P&C Adjustor licensure in appropriate state or obtain P&C Adjustor license within 1 yr of hire, required. Additional Skills (required): Knowledge of claims adjusting, insurance, and medical malpractice defense essential. Ability to successfully complete generic and department-specific skill validation and competency testing. Ability to handle stressful situations. Professional poised individual with high energy level and ability to communicate with appreciation of confidentiality needed for position. Strong verbal and written skills. Documented experience investigating professional liability claims, deposition management, mediation management, trial experience, experience with negotiating professional liability claims settlement, reserve setting, and loss run management, management of outside legal counsel, and approval of legal fees.
