The Clean Power Institute (CPI) is ACP's 501(c)(3) affiliate organization. CPI's mission is to build public support and a skilled workforce to advance the clean energy future. CPI advances its mission through workforce development programming, industry certifications, and strategic partnerships that promote the benefits of clean energy investments across the country. ACP is proud to offer a summer internship program which runs for approximately 8 weeks from Tuesday, June 16 - Thursday, August 6, 2026. These positions are required to work on a hybrid office schedule out of our Washington, DC headquarters and, as such, applicants must be local to the DC area or able to relocate to DC for the 8-week period. Internships are paid $20/hour on a semi-monthly pay schedule. Position Overview The Certification Programs & Coordination Intern supports CPI and ACP during a period of growth as industry certification programs continue to scale. This role contributes to research, coordination, and planning efforts related to certification expansion, systems development, and potential global alignment. Working closely with CPI and ACP staff, the intern will support cross-functional efforts related to workforce credentialing, certification governance, and program design, gaining exposure to how certification systems are developed and managed within a complex, multi-stakeholder environment. Conduct research on certification systems, workforce credentialing models, and domestic or international approaches relevant to clean energy and adjacent industries. Support coordination and documentation efforts, including tracking initiatives, timelines, and open questions. Assist with coordination and engagement of internal and external stakeholders participating in working groups focused on certification scale and alignment, including scheduling, materials preparation, and follow-up documentation. Support landscape analyses related to certification adoption, scale, and potential global alignment. Prepare briefing materials, summaries, and research memos to support internal coordination and decision-making. Help organize information related to certification governance, standards alignment, and program design. Support additional projects related to certification strategy, systems development, and operational planning, as needed. Summer Project & Professional Development Over the course of the summer, the intern will contribute to one or more defined focus areas that provide exposure to the lifecycle of certification program development and coordination. The scope of this work will be refined during the first week of the internship based on team priorities and the intern's interests. Through this work, the intern will have the opportunity to: Build an understanding of how industry certification programs are designed, governed, and scaled. Gain experience conducting research and analysis related to workforce credentialing and certification systems. Develop skills in organizing complex information, tracking initiatives, and supporting cross-functional coordination. Strengthen professional writing, synthesis, and communication skills through briefings and research outputs. Gain exposure to workforce development and certification pathways within the clean energy sector. QualificationsRequired: Current undergraduate or graduate student, or recent graduate, with an interest in clean energy, workforce development, public policy, education, international systems, or a related field. Strong research, writing, and synthesis skills. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities with guidance. Ability to work collaboratively across teams and with external stakeholders. Preferred (but not required): Coursework or experience related to workforce development, certifications, education systems, or public policy. Comfort working in evolving or ambiguous environments. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Job Conditions ACP operates in a fast-paced, collaborative environment with an ambitious agenda and a highly motivated staff. Interns will be supported by their manager and team as they learn and contribute to work with real deadlines and priorities. This role may involve working across multiple tasks and adapting to shifting timelines with guidance.
