Controller

Controller - Brooklyn, NY Rainbow USA is a specialty retailer based in Brooklyn, New York with locations throughout the US and the Caribbean. We are currently looking to fill the position of Controller. The Controller is responsible for overseeing and supervising the accounting personnel, accounting procedures, internal controls, reconciling accounts, transactions, monthly accruals, and other functions of the accounting department. This position also organizes and controls the financial reporting processes. Job Description Oversees accounting procedures, internal controls (implementing, monitoring, enhancing), and database management Randomly audits work flow to assure that all accounting transactions are appropriately authorized Substantiates and justified expenditures and expense reports Supervises and prepares monthly journal entries Prepares monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements Heavy interaction with external auditors Supervises or prepares general ledger reconciliations Assures internal control compliance Trains staff on internal control procedures; assists Controller as needed Reviews monthly closing process Works on special projects Possesses knowledge of GAAP, IRC, FASB, accrual base accounting, organizational auditing, fixed asset accounting, and tax filing requirements They need to keep abreast of current industry events. They must have strong supervisory and analytical skills Possesses a wide knowledge base of different software systems, and have strong computer usage experience Excellent organizational and planning skills with ability to handle multiple priorities, meet demanding deadlines, adjust to sudden changes in workflow, and maintain high quality standards Excellent analytical skills with the ability to think independently, take corrective action, and to resolve inquiries Ability to maintain all job-related information in a confidential and private manner Must be available to work weekends at year end. Requirements CPA designation B.S. degree in Accounting preferred Ten years of experience in public/private accounting required Retail industry experience preferred Excellent verbal and written communication skills
