Job Description & Requirements Specialty: ICU - Intensive Care Unit Discipline: RN Start Date: 03/30/2026 Duration: 13 weeks 36 hours per week Shift: 12 hours, days Employment Type: Travel Assignment Overview Shift: Days, 3x12hrs Hours: 36 hrs/wk Start Date: Mar 30, 2026 Length: 13 weeks Openings: 1 Description American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med Surg ICU position at a Level I Trauma Center, requiring a minimum of 2 years of ICU experience and active ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications. Details Acute care setting in a Med Surg ICU at a Level I Trauma Center serving as the primary tertiary hospital for the system 34-bed unit caring for adult and pediatric patients (15 years and older) Patient population includes neuro surgery, respiratory failure, ARDS, MODS, sepsis, stroke, cardiogenic shock, renal failure (CRRT), general surgery, psych/OD, GI bleeds, and cancer-specific surgeries such as esophagectomy Nurse-to-patient ratios: ICU 1:1-2, PCU 1:4-5, MS 1:5-6 RNs are required to titrate drips including vasopressors, paralytics, narcotics, sedation, and antiarrhythmics Specialized equipment includes CVPs, A-lines, Swans, EV-1000, ICP monitoring, Zoll Thermoguard for hypothermia protocol, and Bell Mont rapid transfuser; on-the-job training available for less common equipment Respiratory equipment ranges from nasal cannula to ventilators Telemetry monitoring via Draeger system with centralized monitoring; no monitor techs — RNs must independently read and interpret cardiac rhythms EMR: Epic 12-hour day and night shifts available (0630–1830 or 1830–0630); schedule is manager-assigned based on unit needs Every other weekend required Holiday coverage required for 2 out of 3 major holidays, or every other as needed Floating required to all inpatient units except Maternity/NICU 13-week contract Requirements Active NE or Compact (NLC) RN license required; no pending licenses accepted Active certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS; no pending certifications accepted Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required Ability to read and interpret cardiac telemetry independently Driver's license required for consideration and used to verify residence is at least 50 miles from the facility 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire Candidates must not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI and/or Dignity, within the past year (candidates employed PRN through outside firms will be considered) Additional Information Interview with the unit manager is required RNs must pass an open-book skills exam during orientation with a minimum score of 90%; failure to pass results in contract termination 2 shifts of unit/department-specific orientation provided Charge nurses are present on each shift and attend rapid response teams (RRTs) and codes Nurse aides/patient care techs available at a 1:18 ratio Collaborative team environment working alongside attendings, fellows, and residents Navy blue scrubs required Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care departments; refusal to remove nails may result to contract termination Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility; driver's license is used to verify permanent address RTO requests of 7 days or fewer per 13-week contract must be submitted upfront; additional RTO will not be approved American Traveler Job ID P-680694.
