Join a dedicated healthcare team in the heart of the Midwest region as an experienced Registered Nurse Shift Manager specializing in Obstetrics and Nursery care. This role involves overseeing unit operations during shifts, ensuring patient safety, and fostering a supportive environment for both patients and staff. Key Responsibilities Implement and monitor patient safety protocols including infection prevention, safe patient handling, and critical lab notifications to maintain an optimal care environment. Coach and counsel nursing staff on adherence to safety and quality standards. Manage central line care and prevent surgical site infections according to established policies. Deliver high-quality nursing care, including medication administration, interventions, and patient/family education. Support quality initiatives by monitoring compliance, participating in process improvements, and communicating goals to staff. Conduct initial and ongoing patient assessments to track status and enhance safety and outcomes. Review and co-sign assessments performed by Licensed Practical Nurses, providing constructive feedback to improve performance. Utilize critical thinking to identify and address areas needing improvement in patient care. Maintain accurate documentation of patient care activities and quality monitoring to ensure compliance with standards. Communicate effectively with physicians, nursing staff, patients, and families to promote positive care experiences and outcomes. Delegate tasks appropriately while fostering teamwork and accountability. Adapt positively to healthcare dynamics and pursue ongoing professional development. Education Graduation from an accredited nursing program is required. A Bachelor of Science in Nursing is preferred. Experience At least one year of registered nursing experience is preferred. Licenses and Certifications Current RN license valid in the state or through Compact Licensure. Graduate nurses must obtain licensure within 90 days of graduation. American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification. Physical and Mental Requirements This role requires considerable mental focus and physical activity including lifting up to 35 lbs, frequent walking, standing, turning, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, crouching, twisting, and reaching. The work environment includes exposure to infectious and communicable diseases and occasional interactions with hostile individuals.
