ABOUT US At K. Hovnanian, we are bringing innovation to a stagnant industry long overdue for change: homebuilding. Through vertical integration and advancing componentized construction, we are fulfilling our mission to deliver beautiful, high-quality homes that uplift souls. We challenge the status quo and are committed to rethinking how homes are designed, built, and delivered so the home of tomorrow is meaningfully better than today. We blend the benefits of a public company (NYSE: HOV) with nearly 70 years of family-rooted leadership. With a presence in 27 markets across 13 states, we serve first-time buyers, move-up buyers, luxury customers, and active lifestyle homeowners. In FY25, we generated approximately $3B in revenue while delivering over 6,400 homes to families nationwide. As we continue to transform how we operate as a company, we are committed to creating an environment where collaboration, accountability, and empowerment are at the core of how we work. We are seeking bold, curious, thoughtful leaders to join us and help shape the future. THE ROLE The Director of Human Resources will serve as a strategic partner to leaders and teams within our Corporate and National functions, helping ensure that our people strategy supports and accelerates our business priorities. Reporting to the Vice President of Human Resources, this role will work closely with functional leaders and HR Centers of Excellence (COE) to translate enterprise programs into practical, effective solutions that strengthen organizational effectiveness, leadership capability, and team performance. In this role, you will be deeply embedded with the business - coaching leaders, supporting organizational and talent decisions, and helping teams navigate growth and change in a dynamic environment. At the same time, you will collaborate closely with HR COE partners to bring forward scalable programs in areas such as talent development, performance management, total rewards, and employee relations, while providing feedback and insights from the field to continuously improve how HR supports the business. We are seeking a strategic, analytical, and deeply people-centered leader who thrives at the heart of transformation and change. This role is ideal for someone who is energized by creativity and innovation, but equally skilled at grounding new ideas in practical, thoughtful execution. You are curious by nature, quick on your feet, and genuinely care about the people and teams you support. You read the room well, ask great questions, and aren't afraid to challenge leaders to think differently - respectfully and productively. You bring a point of view, know it adds value, and engage with confidence and humility. You build real connections, know people by name, and help create the culture, trust, and connectivity that enable teams to do their best work together. RESPONSIBILITIES • Serve as a strategic HR partner to leaders across Corporate and National functions, aligning people strategy with business priorities and supporting organizational effectiveness, growth, and transformation. • Partner closely with the Vice President of Human Resources to shape and execute HR strategies related to culture, workforce planning, leadership capability, and talent development. • Act as a trusted advisor to leaders on complex people and organizational matters, bringing sound judgment, data-informed insights, and a systems perspective to decision-making. • Champion talent strategies that attract, retain, and develop high-performing teams, including leadership development, succession planning, and employee engagement initiatives. • Collaborate closely with HR COEs to translate enterprise programs into practical, effective solutions for the business, while providing feedback and insights to continuously improve HR tools, processes, and programs. • Foster a positive, inclusive, and high-performance culture rooted in collaboration, accountability, and psychological safety, helping leaders and teams do their best work together. • Support leaders and teams through periods of growth, change, and transformation, helping them adopt new ways of working and navigate complexity effectively. • Serve as a thoughtful and trusted partner on employee relations matters, balancing empathy, fairness, and sound risk management while guiding leaders through sensitive situations with discretion and professionalism. • Oversee workplace investigations, employee relations issues, and compliance matters (including EEOC matters and unemployment claims) in partnership with the VP of HR and legal counsel. • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local labor laws, and help leaders understand and apply policies in a consistent, people-centered way. • Analyze workforce data, trends, and qualitative insights to inform people strategies and identify opportunities for improvement. • Support compensation initiatives, including market analysis and planning, in partnership with the HR COEs. • Help ensure day-to-day HR operations across supported functions are effective, responsive, and aligned with enterprise standards. SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS • 10+ years of progressive Human Resources experience, including at least 3 years in a senior HR leadership or HR business partner role supporting complex, multi-function organizations. • Proven ability to lead and support core HR functions in fast-paced, evolving environments, balancing strategic priorities with day-to-day people needs. • Deep understanding of key HR disciplines, including employee relations, performance management, talent development, compensation support, and compliance. • Demonstrated experience serving as a strategic business partner, influencing and aligning leaders and stakeholders across functions and levels of the organization. • Sound judgment and discretion in handling sensitive employee matters, investigations, and risk-related issues, in partnership with legal and HR COEs. • Strong analytical and logical thinking skills, with the ability to assess complex situations, synthesize data and qualitative insights, and recommend practical, people-centered solutions. • Proficiency with project and collaboration tools such as Microsoft Suite, Asana, Miro, or similar platforms used to manage work, facilitate collaboration, and communication effectively. HOW YOU'LL SUCCEED IN THIS ROLE • You bring a strong sense of ownership and accountability and can move seamlessly between strategic thinking and hands-on execution. • You build trust quickly and communicate clearly, especially in moments of ambiguity, conflict, or change. • You are comfortable leading complex work, managing competing priorities, and adapting as business needs evolve. • You collaborate naturally across functions and with HR COE partners, balancing enterprise consistency with business-specific needs. • You bring curiosity, creativity, and a growth mindset to solving problems and improving how work gets done.
