Compliance Business Specialist The Center for Improving Value in Health Care (CIVHC) is an independent, mission-driven nonprofit that leverages data to drive price transparency, advance health equity, and improve health and health care for Coloradans. The Compliance Business Specialist will lead CIVHC's collaborative interactions between the Legal and Compliance Department and CIVHC's business, marketing, communications, finance, and data departments to ensure compliance requirements are integrated efficiently into data licensing, contracting, and client engagement processes. The Compliance Business Specialist will focus on ensuring CIVHC's internal processes and procedures as well as all applicable laws and regulations are followed and will work to streamline such internal systems. The Compliance Business Specialist will partner with internal departments as well as external agencies and organizations when needed on compliance and business related matters in order to assist CIVHC with the responsible and ethical use and release of health care data. This position plays a key role in developing and enhancing operational compliance in support of CIVHC's mission. Working closely within the Legal and Compliance Department as well as other departments, teams, and leaders across the organization, this position ensures CIVHC remains a trusted steward of health care data while fostering a culture of integrity, accountability, and continuous improvement at every level. This position is based in Denver, Colorado. Because CIVHC operates under a hybrid work model with a requirement of at least one in-office day per week (unless otherwise approved), candidates must reside within a commutable distance to the Denver metro area. Limited relocation assistance may be available for out-of-state candidates who intend to relocate to the Denver area. Duties / Responsibilities / Essential Functions: Responsibilities for this position may include, but are not limited to: Act as a liaison and go to expert for the Legal and Compliance Department to the Data Access and Impact, Finance, and Data Solutions Departments regarding compliance and documentation related to the organization's business development activities and all necessary steps for data licensing to clients and other CIVHC offerings and services. Support the Data Access and Impact and Evaluation, Innovation and Research teams with their compliance related work for current and potential clients by assisting with transitions through necessary processes and streamlining compliance requirements in data licensing workflows. Partner with Data Access (business development) and Account Management teams to assess compliance feasibility of prospective data licensing opportunities. Collaborate with Finance to ensure alignment between compliance requirements and billing, invoicing, and revenue recognition processes for data licensing. Develop and maintain compliance tracking tools that provide visibility into renewal timelines, reporting obligations, and risk indicators. Identify process improvements that reduce turnaround time for data access requests while maintaining regulatory integrity. Monitor compliance trends and risks that could impact CIVHC's data products or client relationships. Provide guidance to all CIVHC Departments on internal processes and procedures and applicable laws related to data licensing. Lead and facilitate the Data Release and Review Committee ("DRRC") including the virtual DRRC to ensure all internal and external requirements are being fulfilled and documentation is in place to ensure the appropriate release of data. Lead initiatives as assigned to develop and enhance cross-functional processes for data licensing and other CIVHC offerings and services. Work collaboratively with other members of the Legal and Compliance Department to achieve the Department's goals, objectives, and projects, to meet or exceed Key Performance Indicators, and to contribute to CIVHC's overall mission and values. May assist with various phases of contract management. May assist with the Legal and Compliance Department's internal and external audits. Training, Communication, & Reporting As part of the Legal and Compliance Department, may develop and implement employee training and presentations on topics including but not limited to the DRRC, virtual DRRC, and the requirements and internal processes related to data licensing and other CIVHC offerings and services. Projects Contributes to strategic initiatives and cross-functional special projects as assigned by the General Counsel and Organizational Risk and Compliance Manager. Assists with other Legal and Compliance Department efforts, work, and projects as needed and assigned by the General Counsel and the Organizational Risk and Compliance Manager. Required Skills / Abilities General knowledge of health care laws and regulations including but not limited to HIPAA, Medicaid, Medicare, and other applicable federal and Colorado privacy laws and health care regulations strongly preferred. Ability to develop practical and proactive solutions while also demonstrating flexibility and creative thinking in various situations. Proven ability to build effective cross-functional relationships and collaborate with external and internal partners at all levels. High attention to detail and strong organizational skills to manage multiple priorities, projects, and deadlines. Strong facilitation skills. Strong and adept project management skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office 360 programs and experience with compliance tracking or workflow systems. Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment in high-stakes or ambiguous situations. Eagerness to learn and expand knowledge base. Excellent verbal and written communication skills including technical writing skills. Excellent interpersonal skills including interfacing with internal department and external parties. Education & Experience Bachelor's degree in a business, pre-law, public health, health policy, or health care or compliance related field; In lieu of education, 5 years of progressive experience in compliance, legal, or risk management roles preferably in health care, nonprofit, or data-intensive environments will be accepted. 0-3 years of compliance and/or business experience (preferably focused on health care). Physical Requirements Primarily computer-based work with extended periods of sitting, typing, and concentration. May occasionally require light lifting of office materials. Sitting for extended periods of time. Using a computer and keyboard for typing and data entry. Reaching and stretching to access files or equipment. Lifting and carrying light objects such as papers or office supplies. Walking short distances within the office environment. Operating office equipment such as printers, copiers, and fax machines. Occasionally bending or stooping to retrieve items from lower shelves or cabinets. Maintaining good posture to prevent discomfort or strain. Using a telephone or headset for communication. Ability to focus and concentrate for prolonged periods.
