JOB SUMMARY: The Controller is the backbone of Chase Oaks' finance team ensuring every dollar is accounted for accurately, compliantly, and in the right fund while keeping month-end closes fast and stress-free. ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Key Responsibilities Own the monthly close process (reconciliations, JE preparation, restricted-fund roll-forwards) targeting 7 business days Maintain the integrity of the general ledger in Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT (projects, segments, fixed assets, grant/endowment records) Prepare audit schedules, Form 990 support, and all compliance filings Supervise and develop AP, AR/Donor Records, and Payroll staff Serve as the go-to Blackbaud FE NXT expert and primary liaison with auditors and Blackbaud support Implement and enforce internal controls across campuses Partner with the Executive Director on technical aspects of budgeting, forecasting, and accounting systems projects Serve as primary advisor to the Executive Director and Financial Advisory Team Establish and maintain relations with banks and other financial institutions Provide budgeting process and reports throughout year to ministry leaders Records retention oversight Property tax filings JOB PROFILE: SPECIFIC SKILLS / STRENGTHS Must have excellent communication and customer service skills and the ability to interface with members of the Chase Oaks body, Chase Oaks staff, with a mindfulness that the financial role is a support to those in ministry Work diplomatically in representing the church to outside organizations and institutions Ability to provide creative solutions for ever-changing ministry needs. This may involve providing preliminary training for others in using tools like Excel Strong organizational skills and attention to detail Ability to maintain confidentiality on all organizational and donor-related matters EXPERIENCE DESIRED Minimum of 5 years accounting experience, preferably in General Accounting, Revenue Accounting, Tax, and Audit, ideally with a focus on not-for-profit accounting Solid working knowledge of Microsoft Office tools, particularly Excel, Outlook, and Word Paycom experience is a plus EDUCATION DESIRED Accounting degree required; CPA certification preferred SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Manage team of 3 financial staff responsible for general accounting, payroll processing, accounts payable, contribution processing and revenue accounting LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to speak effectively and understandably on the phone. The ability to effectively present information and respond to common inquiries regarding Chase Oaks ministries is also required COMPUTER SKILLS Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Outlook calendaring, and email Extensive knowledge of Excel Familiarity with databases and accounting systems Data entry skill & experience PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
