Job Description Summary Organization's Summary Statement: - Performs assessments of the Campus electrical distribution and central utility plant electrical systems and equipment. - Oversees the design and replacement/upgrade of electrical equipment and systems. - Acts as the project manager for electrical system maintenance and upgrade efforts. - Evaluates the electrical distribution systems for the campus and in the central utility plants and makes suggestions for improvements. - Plans and coordinates utility outages in support of maintenance & repair and acts as primary liaison with campus projects that interact with existing utilities and/or incorporate new utilities. Coordinates any unplanned electrical system outages with affected parties and works to minimize impact to the campus community. - Provides analysis, design and construction support for the Energy Management & Utilities team, Engineering & Energy (E&E) unit, other FM units and independent college projects and construction activities as they affect campus mechanical utilities. Assures that project goals include the improvement of utility system reliability and efficiency. Physical Demands: Must have the ability to work in, on, around, over and under fixed equipment and machinery; to work from ladders; to manipulate equipment, tools and supplies; to have the manual dexterity to operate a computer; to wear and work in personal protective equipment (safety footwear, hard hat, protective eye and ear wear, etc.); to work in hazardous or irritating environments, confined spaces, and adverse weather or temperature conditions; to lift 70 pounds. While the physical demands listed above may be experienced, the position is primarily an office environment. Preferences: • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a similar related field. • Professional Engineer or EIT • Experience with 13.8 KV or higher distribution systems • Knowledge and use of field test equipment • Knowledge and experience with electrical modeling software like SKM a plus Licenses/ Certifications: Incumbent must possess a driver's license, as duties require the incumbent to travel to and from meetings and project sites both on and off campus. If driving a State vehicle, incumbent must possess a valid MD Class C driver's license or equivalent with fewer than six (6) points. Minimum Qualifications Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. Experience: Three (3) years of experience working with building electrical distribution systems. Other: Additional work experience as defined above may be substituted on a year for year basis for up to four (4) years of the required education. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES: Knowledge of building electrical systems, applicable codes, and products. Knowledge of installation electrical systems best practices. Skill in oral and written communication. Skill in the use of Microsoft Office and Google Workspace products. Ability to interpret and apply policies, procedures, regulations, and laws. Ability to multitask while demonstrating a commitment to customer service.
