Join SSOE as a Mechanical Machine Designer and become a key player in designing and enhancing machinery and material handling equipment for diverse manufacturing projects. In this role, you will utilize Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD to create detailed 3D models, fabrication weldments, and 2D drawings that adhere to industry standards. Collaborate within multidisciplinary teams, working closely with project managers, engineers, and fellow designers to ensure that mechanical systems integrate seamlessly with process equipment and facility utilities. You will engage in comprehensive design reviews, manage scope change controls, and conduct risk assessments to uphold SSOE's commitment to quality and safety. Your typical projects will focus on developing automated equipment layouts, including material handling lines, robotic assembly stations, and custom tooling. You will also interface with utilities such as ductwork, compressed air, and vacuum systems, and support process flow diagrams (PFDs) and piping and instrumentation diagrams (PIDs) to validate equipment placement within manufacturing processes. Conduct site visits to ensure design intent is met, troubleshoot installation challenges, and provide support during construction and startup phases. As part of our dedication to innovation, you'll be trained in Microsoft Copilot, enhancing your efficiency and productivity. Lead the mechanical design development of machinery and automated handling equipment, utilizing AutoCAD and Autodesk Inventor for detailed modeling and documentation. Prepare design packages for machinery that incorporate necessary ductwork and support structures. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate designs within facility layouts, referencing PIDs, PFDs, and utility schematics. Conduct quality assurance and quality control reviews of documentation to ensure compliance with SSOE standards. Participate in design review sessions to align designs with project management and client expectations. Perform site walks for equipment installation validation, field inspections, and corrective action planning. Assist in generating project documentation, including bills of materials, equipment data sheets, and maintenance manuals. Employ version control and change management to track design revisions in alignment with company protocols. Identify potential operational hazards during design and propose mitigation strategies. Communicate effectively with team members, clients, and contractors through well-prepared reports and presentations. Stay informed on the latest manufacturing technologies and trends in automation to enhance your design approach. Qualifications: Minimum of 7 years of mechanical design experience focusing on machine design and material handling in manufacturing or industrial sectors. Proficiency in AutoCAD and Autodesk Inventor for creating 3D models and production drawings. Experience in designing fabrication weldments and structural supports according to AWS D1.1 and ANSI safety standards. Ability to interpret process layouts, PFDs, PIDs, and coordinate machine integrations. Strong understanding of mechanical design calculations related to load analysis, stress, and weld integrity. Experience in multidisciplinary environments collaborating with project managers, engineers, and other designers. Excellent communication skills for producing technical documentation and presenting complex information. Detail-oriented with a proven ability to meet quality and safety standards within tight deadlines. Preferred Qualifications: Experience with SolidWorks or similar CAD platforms. Familiarity with design software like Navisworks or Plant 3D, particularly in piping and utility design. Knowledge of fabrication and assembly processes, commissioning support, and constructability reviews. Exposure to process piping design, including familiarity with ASME B31.3 code and utility systems. Prior experience mentoring junior designers or engineers to enhance best practices.
