Job Description

Join Our Committed Team as an Expert Dentist! This is an exceptional opportunity for a dedicated Dentist to make a significant impact on the oral health of individuals in custody while overseeing a comprehensive dental program that meets high standards and policies. Deliver high-quality dental services such as examinations, diagnoses, and treatments in alignment with IHSC policy and accreditation standards. Maintain meticulous logging and accountability while adhering to strict protocols for the handling and disposal of sharps and instruments. Implement radiation safety protocols consistently to ensure the safety of both patients and providers during dental radiographs. Assist patients in accessing necessary specialist care through the IHSC managed care program. Efficiently prescribe and dispense medications required for patient treatments. Contribute to the daily operations of the dental clinic, including mentoring dental auxiliary staff and liaising with supervisory authorities. Serve as an informed resource for facility staff on dental health matters. Conduct annual training sessions aimed at educating local medical personnel on best practices in dentistry. Maintain precise dental records and ensure timely data submissions to the Regional Dental Consultant. Participate in monthly dental teleconferences and local meetings to encourage collaboration and teamwork. Be available to travel as necessary to provide dental care at various sites. Support the local medical unit and IHSC Dental Program by taking on additional responsibilities such as equipment maintenance and performance improvement initiatives. Commit to upholding all IHSC policies, procedures, and accreditation standards. Promote cultural sensitivity in all interactions, fostering an inclusive and respectful environment. Complete required compliance and training for Joint Commission Healthcare Staffing Services certification or other regulatory requirements. Qualifications: Licensure/Certification: Hold a current, unrestricted Dentist license issued by the appropriate state authority. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required; American Heart Association certification must be obtained within the first year if not currently certified. Education and Experience: Graduate with a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry (DMD) from an accredited institution. At least one year of recent experience as a licensed practicing dentist in the U.S. Experience in Oral Surgery is essential. Attributes and Professional Qualities: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal and relationship-building abilities. Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Cultural competency and integrity are essential. Experience in detention or healthcare environments is preferred. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Thorough understanding of general dentistry practices: diagnosis, treatment, prevention, and emergency care. Expertise in dental procedures, especially advanced oral surgery techniques. A strong commitment to safety, infection control, and quality assurance practices. Proficient in the use of dental equipment and technology. Adept at managing medical emergencies with composure. Experience with electronic health record systems and data management. Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and knowledge of compliance regulations (HIPAA/Privacy Act). Physical Requirements: Ability to walk unaided for short periods and jog or fast walk short distances. Capable of lifting and carrying objects over 30 pounds. Comfortable performing CPR and providing emergency care. Must have adequate sensory capabilities (vision, hearing, smell). Able to effectively manage stress in a demanding environment. Other Special Qualifications: Must be a current resident of the continental U.S. Pass a medical examination prior to assignment. U.S. citizenship with a 5-year residency requirement. Successful completion of a thorough background check. Obtain necessary security clearances. Proficiency in Spanish is a plus.
