This role acts as a strategic part of the SIRS leadership team, taking ownership of business management for transportation. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (Other duties may be assigned, and management retains the discretion to add, delete, or change the duties at any time) Lead, mentor, and support transportation team to meet performance expectations. Manage recruitment, onboarding, and training in partnership with HR. Conduct annual performance reviews and manage disciplinary actions. Travel to Elkhart on a weekly basis, or as needed Address employee relations issues and collaborate with HR and leadership as needed. Oversee transportation safety programs, including audits, training, meetings, and camera system management. Conduct monthly ride-along and safety evaluations. Ensure compliance with FMCSA, CSA, DOT standards, and internal safety policies. Oversee driver schedules, routes, and equipment allocation to meet service goals. Gain in-depth understanding of diverse fleet assets to ensure optimal truck-trailer-container configurations for customer orders. Optimize transportation routes and reduce fuel costs using management software. Collaborate with Account Managers and Administrative Manager to improve dispatch efficiency and service delivery. Maintain accurate records including timekeeping, DVIRs, fuel taxes, trip standards, and vehicle registrations. Ensure proper data entry and reporting using transportation databases. Lead monthly driver meetings and communicate operational updates. Responsible for all transportation safety functions, including performing safety audits, driver safety training, safety meetings, and managing the truck camera system. Partner with maintenance to ensure fleet safety and compliance. Support other divisions and departments to maximize equipment utilization. Assist with equipment movement, maintenance, and general transportation issues. Analyze expenditures and develop cost-saving strategies. Contribute to budgeting and planning to improve profitability and service quality. Track and meet transportation performance metrics. Ensure staff comply with administrative policies, procedures, safety rules, and federal and state regulations. Meet target transportation metrics goals. Must be able to handle high-stress situations Maintain regular and predictable attendance. Perform other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONSREQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Minimum of 5 years managing a transportation department with experience in direct management of CDL-A drivers, dispatching, routing, and safety. SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of accounting software, database software, internet software, timekeeping systems, spreadsheet software, and Microsoft software. Knowledge of truck maintenance Understanding of ISO 9001 Ability to adapt to changes in the work environment, manage competing demands, and deal with frequent change, delays, or unexpected events. Manage difficult or emotional situations, solicits customer feedback to improve service, and responds to requests for service and assistance.
