Location : York, PA Job Type: Faculty, Full Time Job Number: 202600021 Division: School of the Arts, Humanities, Education, and Social Sciences Department: Communication and Writing Opening Date: 03/05/2026 Closing Date: 3/30/2026 11:59 PM Eastern Position SummaryJob Description: The Department of Communication and Writing seeks an imaginative, forward-thinking educator and media professional with expertise in videography and video production (including producing, editing, and packaging content for distribution) to join a growing, engaged, student-centered department. Our nine tenured and tenure-track faculty members, spanning the programs in Film and Media Arts, Mass Communication, and English and Writing, share a passion for teaching and mentoring undergraduate students, embrace new technologies, and prepare graduates who are sought after by regional and national employers as they shape the future of the media industry. The successful candidate will join a well-resourced Mass Communication program, where collaboration is deeply embedded in the culture. Backed by outstanding production facilities, including a professional-grade studio, dedicated editing bays, and an expansive equipment inventory, the program provides the tools and institutional support for faculty and students to produce exceptional work. Teaching four courses per semester in videography and video production, the successful candidate will help students build the technical and professional skills the modern media industry demands while providing creative and strategic leadership for a program that thrives on interdisciplinary conversations. Through a campus-wide culture of colleagues who are eager to work across disciplinary boundaries, the program maintains strong partnerships with several other disciplines at the college (Sport Media, Film and Media Arts, and Theatre) and colleagues in building new opportunities, integrating emerging technologies, and contributing to a vibrant culture of learning and success. A hallmark of a York College education is our commitment to engage students in real-world experiences. Our faculty are encouraged to develop coursework and partnerships with nonprofits and other industry partners, where students work hand-in-hand with practitioners to create materials and solutions that serve our community. Our students consistently win and place in the Broadcast Education Association Festival of Media Arts and On Location Competitions, as well as the College Broadcasters Inc Awards. Along with these national awards, our students participate in the Film and Media Arts annual Student Film event and participate in several clubs, such as WVYC 88.1 FM: The York College Radio Station and the Film and Media Society. Our graduates go on to successful careers at local news outlets and media companies, as well as national media outlets such as ESPN. Facilities and Resources Our Mass Communication program is backed by outstanding, ready-to-use production facilities and a supportive institutional ecosystem designed to help you and your students do exceptional work: Purpose-Built Television Studio with Control Room: A professional-grade TV studio complete with a dedicated control room, news broadcast and demonstration sets, green screen, and industry-standard equipment. Editing Bays & Post-Production Facilities: Threededicated editing bays and additional editing and production spaces to support coursework, student projects, and faculty creative work. High-Quality Equipment: A strong and developing inventory of cameras, audio gear, lighting, and accessories available for both student and faculty use. Outcome: The hiring of a qualified candidate for a tenure-track position in Videography and Video Production. Essential FunctionsTeach courses such as Introduction to Studio Production, Mass Communication: Media and Theory, Video Production, Digital Video Editing, Senior Portfolio, Media Law and Ethics, while using methods and materials most appropriate for meeting program and course objectives. With faculty colleagues, oversee specialized facilities (studio, editing bays, equipment closet), supervise student workers, and provide expert oversight for significant equipment holdings and purchasing decisions. Support students in the Mass Communication major through academic advising, leading independent studies, and internship support. Maintain an active scholarly or artistic agenda. Experience and Education RequiredMaster's degree in Mass Communication, Media Production, or a related field, and a minimum of five years of professional experience; earned doctorate or MFA preferred. Demonstrated expertise in videography, video production, and digital editing, and preferably studio management. Experience teaching in higher education. Professional industry experience in media production is highly desirable. Required Skills and QualificationsExcellent communication skills and a strong commitment to working as part of a collaborative team. Ability to apply supervisory skills and motivate undergraduate students. Technical proficiency in current media industry software and hardware, including Adobe Creative Cloud (Premiere & Audition), and preferably familiarity with Blackmagic Design television studio technologies. Student-focused approach, with the ability to learn and apply new concepts and ideas in the service of our diverse population of learners.
