Salary: Depends on Qualifications Location : Tucson, AZ Job Type: Full-Time Job Number: 2025-00469 Department: ADMINISTRATIVE/LEGISLATIVE Division: TRIBAL ADMINISTRATION Opening Date: 02/23/2026 Closing Date: 3/9/2026 11:59 PM Arizona Job Summary The incumbent will serve as an architect and steward of a paid internship program designed to align with higher education academic calendars and the Pascua Yaqui Tribe's governance priorities. Working under the Office of the Tribal Administrator and directly with Tribal Council and staff, the incumbent will embed college and university students into high-impact assignments that promote tribal operation continuity, work experience development, and self-governance. The incumbent will serve as a systems guide, professional mentor, and administrative liaison, cultivating future tribal leaders through structured mentorship, policy exposure, and operational engagement. This role reinforces the Tribe's commitment to intergenerational leadership development, civic responsibility, and culturally grounded governance. Principle Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe incumbent will design and manage a bi-annual or quarterly paid internship program aligned with academic calendars and the Tribal Council's strategic initiatives. Work directly with Tribal Council and Tribal Administrator staff to coordinate intern assignments, mentorship, and strategic engagement. Facilitate intern participation in policy research, legislative tracking, administrative support, and tribal governance activities. Develop and deliver culturally grounded orientation and training modules that reflect Yaqui history, governance, and community protocols. Monitor intern progress through structured evaluations, reflective learning tools, and performance check-ins. Create and maintain formal evaluation tools and impact reports for Tribal Council and leadership to assess intern contributions and program outcomes. Ensure accurate processing of intern stipends and financial documentation in coordination with tribal finance protocols. Serve as a mentor and role model, fostering professional growth, ethical conduct, and civic responsibility. Advise the Tribal Administrator on program outcomes, strategic improvements, and long-term talent development opportunities. Perform other duties of a similar nature or level as requested by the Tribal Administrator. Required Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesKnowledge of: Pascua Yaqui cultural values, governance structures, and community priorities or a demonstrated commitment to learning and honoring them. Tribal administrative systems, Council protocols, and interdepartmental workflows. Principles of mentorship, experiential learning, and professional development. Skills and Abilities: Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to coordinate multiple interns across diverse assignments. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage Tribal Council, executive staff, and youth with clarity and diplomacy. Ability to design and facilitate culturally relevant training and orientation sessions. Proficiency in standard office software and documentation tools. Commitment to collaborative leadership, systems thinking, and continuous improvement. Education, Certifications and Experience Required Bachelor's degree in Public Administration, Education, Organizational Leadership, Tribal Governance, or a related field. Minimum of three (3) years of experience in program coordination, youth mentorship, or tribal administration. Preferred Qualifications: Experience working with Tribal Council or executive leadership in a governance or administrative capacity. Familiarity with tribal internship programs, youth development strategies, or workforce readiness initiatives. Special Requirements: Must possess and maintain a valid Arizona Driver's License. Must hold or be eligible to obtain a current Level 1 Arizona Clearance Card and Homeland Security Background Check within ninety (90) days of hire. The incumbent may be required to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to accommodate intern activities and Council assignments. Must demonstrate a high level of discretion, cultural sensitivity, and ethical conduct in all professional interactions. May be required to travel for intern site visits, tribal events, or intergovernmental meetings.
