Description POSITION SUMMARY Under direct supervision, performs repair and maintenance of all plant equipment and vehicles; maintains all tools and equipment; assists with inspections; maintains accurate inspection records; reports problems to supervisor. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS • Assists in the maintenance of pumps and equipment associated with the wastewater treatment plant, checks equipment on a regularly scheduled basis to insure proper operating condition and preventative maintenance on all plant equipment; • Maintains all tools and equipment in good working order; • Assists plant operations as needed to ensure proper plant operations; • Assists with rebuilding equipment; • Assists with preventative maintenance on all plant equipment; • Reports all problems to supervisor; • Assists other departments and/or agencies as directed; • Assists contractors working on sewer projects as directed; • Operate Vacuum Truck and Dump Truck • Other duties as assigned. ESSENTIAL COMPETENCIES • Work is thorough, timely and reflects follow-through to completion. • Complies with departmental performance standards. • Demonstrates willingness to undertake duties as assigned. • Communicates effectively, both orally and in writing. Requirements SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License as a condition of employment when hired. Must be capable of working periodic overtime and available to work on-call as scheduled. WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Work in an industrial maintenance setting desired but not required. EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS High School graduate or equivalent. Vocational school classes in pump mechanics desired but not required. Class I Wastewater Treatment License expected after one (1) year of employment. WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS Work is performed both indoors and outdoors, regardless of weather conditions; work includes sitting, standing, stooping, walking, using ladders and stairs in confined spaces, and lifting objects of more than 50 pounds. Exposed to noise, machinery, and its moving parts. Also, exposed to fumes, chemicals, toxic substances and raw sewage. Work will also be conducted in streets and roadways.
