The Cloud Infrastructure Administrator helps operate and evolve the hybrid cloud platforms that power critical teaching, research, and administrative services. Assisting Platform, Server, and Service Engineers, this role supports enterprise virtualization, storage, and data protection across private and public cloud environments. You'll play a hands-on role in keeping infrastructure secure, reliable, and performant while contributing to the modernization of how services are delivered and managed. This position blends day-to-day operations with forward-looking improvement. You'll assist with automation, monitoring, lifecycle management, and AI-enhanced operations, collaborate with application teams and vendors, and contribute to projects as an infrastructure subject matter expert. Ideal candidates have a foundation in using or some experience managing virtualization, cloud platforms, and storage, a strong interest for automation and CI/CD practices, and a commitment to dependable, mission-driven, and metric driven IT services. Duties/Responsibilities (55%) Assist with daily operational management and support of enterprise virtualization platforms, storage solutions, and data protection solutions: Administration of Virtualization and Cloud platforms Administration of data backup and protection services aligning them with data retention, disaster recovery, and business continuity policies Configuration, troubleshooting, and performance tuning of enterprise storage solutions including storage arrays and hyper-converged infrastructure (HCI) for block and file scenarios, and cloud object and block storage solutions Coordination and collaboration with application management teams regarding server system requirements and provisioning needs Coordination with vendors for patching and upgrading of virtualization platforms, storage, and data protection solutions (30%) Using CI/CD concepts for guidance, assist with managing, configuring, and ensuring the successful lifecycle of virtual and cloud-based assets in the USNH private and public cloud environments: Contribute to the automation of VM and compute resource provisioning and lifecycle management Assist with monitoring service performance and resource utilization and with the administration of automated performance analysis, anomaly detection, notification, and response Support the implementation of AI enhancements to improve IT automation processes, solutions, and data analysis Collaborate with other functional teams to ensure high availability, stability, scalability, and fault tolerance of server and service resources Assist with the creation and management of documentation (10%) Contribute to additional assigned projects as a resource: Provide your input as a subject matter expert or representative of the infrastructure team Provide communication between the project team and your department leadership as needed Research solutions to support any deliverables of the assigned project (5%) General IT support: A commitment to providing stable and reliable services Demonstrated ability to rapidly learn and understand new technologies Effective oral and written communication skills Provide after-hours coverage for time sensitive, scheduled, critical events, addressing production issues, or other changes Requirements Minimum Acceptable Education & Experience: Bachelor's degree and four years of experience in information technology field, Associate's and six years, or combination of education and experience equal to eight years Familiarity with virtualization platforms (e.g. VMware vSphere, HyperV, KVM) Familiarity with the cloud platforms Microsoft Azure and/or Amazon AWS Basic understanding of enterprise storage concepts and solutions, including SAN/NAS, RAID levels, storage provisioning and management, object storage, and block storage Experience managing and supporting applications in an enterprise environment Experience with creating and maintaining both internal and user-facing documentation Demonstrated experience and proficiency with scripting and/or programming languages, automation of tasks and processes Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Broad knowledge of several areas of information technology and thorough knowledge of specialty areas as required by department Overall information technology skills as required by employing department Organizational skills and effective oral and written communication skills Organized, self-motivated, and able to work both independently and within a team Ability to work effectively while remote, including remote customer support General working knowledge of virtual and cloud networking concepts Preferred Qualifications: Experience working at large higher education institutions Working knowledge and experience with enterprise virtualization platforms (e.g., VMware vSphere, HyperV, KVM, Containers) Working knowledge and experience with the cloud platforms Microsoft Azure and/or Amazon AWS Experience supporting enterprise storage systems, including storage provisioning, RAID configuration, and monitoring capacity/performance. Certifications in cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure Certifications in DevOps or CI/CD practices.
