Underwriting Manager - E&S Property

This role involves leading, coaching, and empowering a high-performing regional team of Property underwriting specialists. You will play a key role in: Overseeing regional performance metrics such as new business production, policy count retention, and rate execution. Managing relationships with regional wholesale brokers to ensure smooth operations. Handling underwriter referrals and maintaining a small production portfolio to stay engaged with regional market dynamics. Fostering a rich and supportive team culture within the underwriting department. This role demands a hands-on approach, including occasional travel to meet the needs of your team and nurture important broker relationships (approximately 25% travel). We are looking for candidates with strong technical expertise in underwriting property risks, experience in talent development, and a proven track record in profitable portfolio management. This position will be based out of our Atlanta or Chicago office and offers a flexible hybrid work schedule tailored to support our clients, brokers, and agents, while ensuring your work-life balance. We are hiring for either an AVP Underwriting Manager or VP Senior Underwriting Manager level, based on the candidate's experience and skill set. Basic Qualifications for AVP Level: High School Diploma or Equivalent with 7+ years of experience in Underwriting or Market Facing roles. High School Diploma or Equivalent with 14+ years of experience in Claims or Underwriting Support roles. Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate's degree and 5+ years in Underwriting or Market Facing roles. Minimum of 2 years of management experience. Basic Qualifications for VP Level: Bachelor's Degree with 10+ years of experience in Underwriting, Market Facing, Broker, Carrier, or Risk Management in the Commercial Insurance sector. Bachelor's Degree with 20+ years in Claims or Underwriting Support in the Commercial Insurance field. Experience specifically in E&S Property. Minimum of 2 years of people management experience. Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree. Strong underwriting acumen in the E&S Property space. Established relationships with wholesale brokers. Demonstrated planning and execution skills. Excellent team-building and organizational abilities. CPCU designation is a plus. Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills. Strong presentation skills. In-depth knowledge of forms language and coverage intent. Results-driven mindset. The salary for this position is competitive, ranging from $130,000 to $280,000, based on experience and role. The AVP role ranges from $130,000 to $215,000, while the VP role ranges from $198,000 to $280,000, each with eligibility for additional incentives.
