Job Title: Training Assistant Manager Department: Operations Reports To: Store Manager Exemption Status (FLSA): Non-Exempt Job Summary: The Training Assistant Manager plays a crucial role in the daily operations of the store, including recruitment, training, and scheduling of team members. This position offers leadership by giving clear direction, setting goals, and providing constructive feedback. The Training Assistant Manager enhances operations efficiency while ensuring a fast, friendly, and clean customer experience by managing staffing levels, inventory, cash controls, and maintenance tasks. Essential Functions: Lead the team actively on the floor during shifts, reacting to workflow challenges and supporting team members to ensure smooth operations. Deliver prompt and courteous customer service aligned with company standards. Process customer transactions accurately using point-of-sale systems. Keep the store clean, safe, and organized. Perform food service tasks in compliance with food safety and sanitation regulations when necessary. Conduct necessary interior and exterior store duties that support daily operations. Key Responsibilities: Manager-on-Duty / Shift Leadership Serve as manager-on-duty during designated shifts, assuming full responsibility for store operations and team performance. Direct, prioritize, and delegate tasks to customer service representatives for effective operations. Monitor performance, providing real-time coaching and guidance. Ensure adherence to company policies, procedures, safety standards, and cash-handling guidelines. Act as the main contact for customer issues and operational concerns. Document and communicate shift-related events and follow-up necessities to the store manager. Customer Service Welcome each customer with a friendly greeting to create an inviting atmosphere. Assist customers and offer product or service recommendations. Handle customer concerns and complaints professionally, resolving issues within policy parameters. Escalate unresolved issues to the store management as needed. Observe store activity, reporting any suspicious behavior or safety issues. Communicate effectively with team members and guests. Sales and Cash Handling Encourage customer loyalty by enrolling customers in the rewards program. Stay updated on promotions, advertised products, and sales. Upsell related items to enhance customer purchases. Process transactions accurately and handle cash according to company loss prevention procedures. Ensure that all merchandise is properly scanned, paid for, and secured, especially for high-risk items. Verify age and comply with state laws regarding the sale of age-restricted products. Ensure items are correctly labeled and priced during promotions. Assist with car wash programs and manage traffic flow during peak times if applicable. Store Cleanliness and Appearance Interior: Maintain clean, sanitary, and well-stocked restrooms and customer areas. Empty trash receptacles inside the store and keep the register area organized. Address spills and ensure cooler and storage areas are clean and organized. Ensure merchandise displays and floors meet company standards. Exterior: Maintain cleanliness, safety, and appearance of the exterior areas, including parking lots and entrances. Ensure safety by clearing walkways in winter and notifying maintenance of lighting issues. Keep fuel station areas clean and stocked, addressing any maintenance needs. Check exterior equipment for cleanliness and functionality, reporting any issues. Perform tasks such as landscaping upkeep and minor painting as necessary. Operational Support Prepare food items following safety and sanitation standards. Conduct regular inventory audits, including age-restricted items. Monitor store activity via DVR for operational insights. Assist in inventory management tasks including deliveries, stocking, and removing expired products. Oversee fuel storage inventory levels. Troubleshoot equipment issues and maintenance needs. Support store operations during busy periods and staffing shortages. Responsibly recruit and train new team members. Prepare daily reports, reconcile shift sheets, handle banking procedures, and transport deposits. Utilize reports to develop strategies aimed at maximizing sales and meeting targets. Perform other assigned duties from the Store Manager. Requirements and Qualifications Availability to work a minimum of 40 hours per week and to provide support as needed, including on-call duties. Possess a valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle for banking tasks. Basic literacy and numeracy skills. Ability to operate POS systems and store equipment. Willingness to adhere to company policies, procedures, and safety standards. Maintain appropriate uniform standards while on duty. Meet minimum age requirements for selling alcohol as per state laws. Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent is required. Previous customer service or cashier experience is essential. Supervisory experience is preferred. Physical Requirements: Ability to stand or walk for extended durations. Ability to bend, reach, and perform repetitive motions. Regularly lift items weighing up to 25 pounds, occasionally lifting up to 50 pounds. Perform physical tasks in varying weather conditions. Work Environment: Fast-paced convenience store setting with regular customer interactions. Involves both indoor and outdoor work conditions. Required Travel: Travel for banking purposes. Assistations at other store locations. Attending training classes.
