Responsibilities: • Accompany the safety mentor on job site inspections and safety audits at active electrical construction projects. • Assist in identifying and documenting workplace hazards, unsafe conditions, and unsafe behaviors. • Participate in pre-task planning reviews, job hazard analyses (JHAs), and toolbox talks. • Participate in preparatory installation meetings with project teams • Observe and support the verification of Energy Control Efforts including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) • Observe and support procedures for high hazard activities including confined space entries, Scaffold, excavation and energized work. • Assist in monitoring compliance with PPE requirements, fall protection, and other OSHA standards. • Participate and provide job-site orientations for newly placed employees on a project site. Safety Program Administration • Help maintain safety documentation, inspection records, incident logs, and OSHA recordkeeping forms as applicable. • Observe and support during the 3-day new hire safety orientation. • Participate in entering project daily/weekly safety forms into SharePoint & Procore • Support in developing Jobsite Site Safety Plan • Support in safety durable & consumable inventory • Support the tracking of Azuga driving program • Support the tracking and close-out of corrective actions resulting from inspections or incident investigations. • Attending support industry outreach committee meetings such as TEXO, AGC, ABC, IEC • Participate in the subcontractor safety prequalification and managing safety processes related to scope. Incident Reporting and Investigation • Assist the safety team in documenting and investigating workplace incidents, near misses, and first aid cases. • Support root cause analysis efforts and the development of corrective and preventive actions (CAPA). • Support in retraining as needed as part of RCA • Help communicate lessons learned to field crews and project teams. Training and Communication • Assist in scheduling and facilitating safety meetings, orientations, and toolbox talks. • Deliver at least one toolbox talk or safety presentation to a field crew during the internship. • Assist and Support Quarterly OSHA 30 & QEW training • Assist and support development of updating safety training material • Attend & participate in project staff meeting, GC Meetings • Attend & participate in project handoff & safety startup meeting as needed • Help prepare and distribute safety communications, alerts, and signage. Capstone Project • Complete an assigned safety improvement project during the internship period and present findings and recommendations to the safety team at the conclusion of the program. • Examples may include developing a revised inspection checklist, creating a job-specific JHA library, analyzing near-miss trend data, develop employee recognition safety program, updating a safety training module, or analysis of current PPE and identifying improvements. Qualifications • Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university pursuing a degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Environmental Health and Safety, Construction Management, or a related field. • Completion of at least two years of relevant coursework. • Basic understanding of OSHA regulations, particularly 29 CFR 1926 (Construction) and/or 29 CFR 1910 (General Industry). • Strong written and verbal communication skills. • Ability to work in a field environment, including outdoor job sites and varying weather conditions. • Self-motivated with a strong attention to detail and the ability to take direction. • OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification (or willingness to obtain during internship). • Familiarity with NFPA 70E, Electrical Safety in the Workplace The job requires working in all elements, depending on job location, time of year, heat, cold, and rain. Wear personal protective equipment (hard hat, safety glasses always), respirator when required. Able to work 8 -10 hours per day, 40 hours per week, and overtime as required and night shifts. Includes crawling, standing, stooping, bending, crouching, kneeling, sitting, reaching, able to routinely lift heavy objects more than 50 pounds and pushing and pulling of objects is required. Repetitive use of arms, hands, and fingers. Physical work is a primary part (more than 70%) of the job.
