About the Role The Plumbing Cost Estimator plays a crucial role in preparing precise and competitive cost estimates for plumbing projects, ensuring both profitability and adherence to client specifications. This position requires a keen analysis of blueprints, specifications, and proposals to accurately determine project scope, costs, and necessary resources. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, in-depth industry knowledge, and exceptional attention to detail, particularly in relation to 5-over-2 projects or similar multifamily constructions. Key Responsibilities Project Estimation: Review project documents, including blueprints, specifications, and RFPs, to ascertain project scope and requirements. Create detailed cost estimates that encompass labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor expenses. Prepare and submit comprehensive bid proposals by specified deadlines. Utilize expertise in 5-over-2 construction to develop accurate estimates for plumbing installations in multifamily buildings. Vendor and Subcontractor Coordination: Solicit and analyze quotes from suppliers and subcontractors to ensure competitive pricing. Establish and maintain robust relationships with vendors for reliable cost inputs. Budgeting and Value Engineering: Collaborate with project teams to uncover cost-saving opportunities and suggest alternative materials or methods. Ensure that estimates align with overall project budgets and financial objectives. Documentation and Reporting: Maintain meticulous records of all estimates, including underlying assumptions and calculations. Prepare reports that summarize project costs, risks, and potential profitability. Client and Stakeholder Collaboration: Engage with clients to clarify project specifics and address any inquiries regarding estimates. Participate in project meetings to support bid presentations and negotiation efforts. Market Analysis: Stay informed about market trends, material costs, and advancements in the industry to enhance estimation processes. Monitor competitor pricing and adjust estimation strategies accordingly. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent (required); associate's or bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field (preferred). 3+ years of experience in plumbing estimation, construction estimation, or a related role. Strong understanding of 5-over-2 multifamily construction, plumbing systems, materials, and local building codes. Proficiency in estimation software (e.g., ProEst, PlanSwift, or similar) and Microsoft Office Suite. Excellent mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving abilities. Capability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications. Strong organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail. Effective communication and negotiation abilities. Work Environment and Physical Requirements Primarily office-based with occasional visits to job sites for evaluations. Ability to function under tight deadlines and adapt to evolving priorities. Compensation and Benefits Competitive salary range: $90,000 - $120,000 annually, based on experience and qualifications.
