WHAT WE HAVE TO OFFERLocation: Located at 19 Vendue Range, Charleston, SC 29401, The Vendue is in the heart of Charleston's French Quarter and Art District. Steps away from Waterfront Park, Charleston City Market, and Rainbow Row, along with other historic attractions, shopping, and dining. Hourly Pay: $17.00 per hour full-time. Overtime will be paid at time and a half for any hours over 40 in a week. Sign-on bonus: $250 awarded after 3 months of employment, and an additional $250 will be awarded after 6 months of employment. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Regularly inspect, maintain, and repair all hotel areas in accordance with company procedures, standards, and any required health and safety guidelines. Perform maintenance of electrical systems (replace light bulbs, change batteries in door locks, replace electrical fixtures, etc.) Perform maintenance of plumbing systems to ensure functionality (replace faucets, drains, hoses, toilets, etc.) Perform HVAC troubleshooting and repair and installation. Perform carpentry, painting, drywall, or carpet repair as necessary. Conduct ongoing room preventative maintenance program as directed Resolve maintenance problems, complaints, work orders, and shop assignments in a timely manner. Conduct general upkeep procedures as directed (i.e. landscaping, caulking, painting, etc.) Identify and address current and potential maintenance needs. Maintain clean and orderly shops and storage areas. Assist in the ordering and stock maintenance of all necessary tools, parts, and materials. Maintain safe conditions in the work area and other associated areas. Complete work orders and shop assignments in a timely manner. Work with Housekeeping and Guest Services to ensure all equipment within the guest rooms are functioning properly. Perform all other engineering-related duties assigned by the Chief Engineer, department heads, supervisors or MOD. Offer lateral service to internal/external customers when available. Note that this is not an inclusive list and maintenance team members are often asked to assist with tasks in other areas of the hotel to best serve the business. Other tasks may be assigned by the Chief Engineer or other managers. JOB REQUIREMENTS Experience & Education: 2+ years experience preferred EPA certification a plus, but not required High school diploma or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the skills, knowledge, or abilities. Skills & Abilities: Basic knowledge of engineering concepts, including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and mechanical systems. General knowledge of maintenance processes and methods. Ability to operate handheld and power tools safely and effectively. Working knowledge of common appliances and devices. Accuracy in executing assigned tasks. Ability to work under pressure, stay organized, be self-motivated, and work with minimal supervision. Ability to read, speak, and understand English to communicate with the team and follow directions. Maintain regular and punctual on-site attendance with the ability to work a flexible schedule which may include days, evenings, weekends, and holidays when business requires. WORKING CONDITIONS Equipment to Be Used: Various power and hand tools and ladders Technology-based systems (computers, apps, door lock systems, television platforms, etc.) Communications equipment (telephones and two-way portable radios) Cleaning equipment and supplies Physical & Mental Requirements: Professionally communicate with guests, management, and team members. Attention to detail and problem-solving skills. Ability to regularly stand, walk, sit, use hands to handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, and talk or hear. Often required to reach above head and shoulder height. Must be able to bend, kneel, and twist. Must be able to use a stepladder. Requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate standard engineering tools and machines. Must be able to work in hazardous conditions with attention to maintaining safety standards. Specific vision abilities required by this job include peripheral vision and depth perception. Requires normal range of hearing. Move, bend, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing up to 75 pounds without assistance. Must be able to stand and/or walk for an extended period and/or for an entire shift. Must be willing to work outdoors at times in adverse weather conditions. Work Environment: While primarily an indoor job, one must be able to work outside in a variety of weather conditions. Will work in all areas of the property including guest rooms, public areas, restaurants, storage areas, outside, rooftops, etc. Some areas will be small and/or confining or high. Will be exposed to heat, cold, or noise beyond average. Will work with contaminants often such as oils, solvents, and paints. Will work in hazardous situations and with hazardous equipment. Will be exposed to machine sounds that are distracting and uncomfortable. Will work in conditions of either bright or inadequate lighting. Will often wear protective attire such as work gloves, hard hats, leather aprons, back support, and sturdy boots.
