Job Description The assistant principal is a vital member of the guiding coalition and leadership team and should assist in setting the vision for achieving and sustaining high levels of student achievement and strategically implementing the school's mission through effective leadership of all stakeholders, including faculty, staff, students, parents and the community. The assistant principal should assist the principal in overseeing all aspects of the instructional program, school environment and the operation of the school. Position Summary Under the direction of the principal, the Assistant Principal serves as a vital member of the school's guiding coalition and leadership team. The Assistant Principal assists the principal in setting and sustaining a clear vision for high levels of student achievement and in strategically implementing the school's mission through effective leadership and collaboration with faculty, staff, students, families, and the community. The Assistant Principal supports the principal in overseeing the instructional program, school culture, and daily operations of the school, while modeling professionalism, ethical leadership, and a strong commitment to student success. Essential Functions 1. Leading Teaching and Learning Under the direction of the principal and in collaboration with school leadership teams, the Assistant Principal will: Assist in articulating and implementing a clear, compelling instructional vision grounded in strong and sustainable student achievement outcomes. Promote high standards and expectations for academic, social, and behavioral growth for all students and staff. Support and monitor instructional practices to ensure alignment with district priorities, including the Science of Reading across content areas. Participate as an active member of content and grade-level teams, specifically co-leading teams as assigned. Serve as lead administrator on curriculum development teams as assigned Collaborate with school and district leaders to support the district's concurrent credit program, the Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs, and others as assigned Model and promote the consistent use of data to inform instruction, interventions, and decision-making. 2. Professionalism Under the direction of the principal, the Assistant Principal will: Establish and maintain professional, respectful relationships with students, staff, parents, and community members. Demonstrate the highest ethical and professional standards in all interactions. Serve as a role model for students by dressing professionally, demonstrating pride in the education profession, and accepting responsibility for outcomes. Consistently demonstrate strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal "soft skills" with all stakeholders. 3. Executive Leadership Under the direction of the principal and as part of the school leadership team, the Assistant Principal will: Co-lead the school's Guiding Coalition as assigned, participating in monthly meetings at minimum and contributing as an active member. Promote distributive leadership by empowering staff while modeling sound judgment and effective decision-making. Support the principal in implementing district initiatives and ensuring alignment between school practices and district goals. 4. School Culture Under the direction of the principal, the Assistant Principal will: Foster a positive, safe, and productive school climate through intentional planning, communication, and relationship-building. Support and facilitate school-wide systems for Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS). Ensure social-emotional learning is embedded into school culture, systems, and daily practices. Lead or support student supervision systems, including duty schedules, weapons detection systems, phone pouch implementation, and crisis management and response. 5. Strategic Action Planning Under the direction of the principal and in collaboration with school teams, the Assistant Principal will: Support the implementation and monitoring of school improvement goals and action plans. Participate as an active member of the Student Intervention Team. Facilitate and support intervention systems, including RTI/MTSS, ICU, COD, VIP, and 504 processes. Use data to evaluate programs, identify trends, and adjust strategies to improve student outcomes. 6. Management Under the direction of the principal, the Assistant Principal will: Assist in managing, evaluating, and supervising clear and effective procedures for daily school operations. Support discipline systems to ensure a safe and orderly learning environment. Assist with building operations, emergency procedures, extracurricular oversight, and office operations. Oversee or support assigned operational responsibilities, including student supervision, crisis response, and program coordination. Ensure compliance with all federal and state laws, board policies, and district procedures. 7. Professional Development & Human Capital Under the direction of the principal, the Assistant Principal will: Support staff growth through observation, feedback, coaching, and evaluation with fidelity. Effectively evaluate instructional practice, classroom management, professional growth efforts, and leadership skills, providing clear, actionable feedback and support. Fully participate in district-identified professional development, including for the Science of Reading, Professional Crisis Management, behavior and mental health supports, and others as assigned,and ensure implementation of best practices at the school level. Promote a culture of continuous improvement and professional learning among staff. Other Duties Perform other duties as assigned by the principal in support of school and district priorities. Physical Demands: The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing job duties, the assistant principal is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, and talk or hear. The principal is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch,or crawl. The principal must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in this environment ranges quiet to loud depending upon the activity of the particular day and time.
