Project Manager - Public Works (Sewage Treatment Plant) Location: Indio, CA (On-Site) Industry: Heavy Civil / Water & Wastewater Infrastructure Employment Type: Full-Time A well-established heavy civil contractor specializing in water, wastewater, and public infrastructure projects is seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead construction efforts on a major sewage treatment plant project in the Coachella Valley. This is a high-visibility leadership role supporting a critical public works project. The position requires strong field coordination, technical knowledge of treatment plant construction, and the ability to manage complex stakeholder relationships while maintaining schedule, budget, safety, and quality standards. The Role The Project Manager will serve as the contractor's on-site representative and will lead all construction management efforts for the project. This role is responsible for planning, coordination, execution, documentation, and closeout of work in compliance with contract documents and regulatory requirements. The PM will work closely with internal leadership, field engineering staff, subcontractors, inspectors, and the Owner to ensure successful project delivery. What We're Looking For 10+ years of construction experience Minimum 5+ years on sewage treatment plant or water/wastewater infrastructure projects Experience working for a contractor as a Project Manager Strong understanding of heavy civil sequencing, utilities, and public agency coordination Ability to manage schedules, submittals, change orders, and project documentation Experience interacting directly with owners, engineers, and regulatory stakeholders Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management (preferred) Valid driver's license This role requires a strong field presence, disciplined documentation habits, and the ability to lead subcontractors and internal teams in an active construction environment. Key Responsibilities Project & Field Leadership Serve as the primary on-site representative Plan, direct, and coordinate all field engineering activities Ensure work is completed safely, on schedule, and within budget Support productivity, quality, and safety initiatives Pre-Construction & Planning Review drawings, specifications, subcontractor quotes, and job files Lead pre-construction meetings Develop project schedules, submittal logs, and schedule of values Coordinate contract execution internally Execution & Coordination Manage site logistics and staging plans Coordinate subcontracts, purchase orders, and material procurement Oversee submittals including shoring, traffic control, SWPPP, and testing plans Maintain daily coordination with field teams and subcontractors Support project closeout, punch lists, as-builts, and O&M documentation Safety Management Enforce company safety policies and OSHA requirements Hold subcontractors accountable to safety standards Document safety meetings and inspections Coordinate with OSHA representatives when required Team Leadership Provide indirect supervision to project staff Support hiring, mentoring, and performance development Resolve team challenges and escalate as needed Work Environment Full-time, on-site role in Indio, CA Active construction environment Regular exposure to heavy equipment, machinery, and outdoor conditions Physical ability to walk, climb, crouch, and navigate construction sites Lifting requirements up to 50 lbs occasionally Compensation & Benefits Base Salary: $120,000-$160,000, depending on experience Full-time employment Opportunity to work on high-profile public infrastructure projects Collaborative, safety-first culture Interview Process Initial screening conversation Technical and leadership interview Final discussion with company leadership
