Job Summary The Parks Maintenance Technician performs a wide range of maintenance, groundskeeping, and housekeeping activities supporting parks resource management and services within Parks, Cultural & Natural Resources. This position operates under the general direction of the Park Supervisor and exercises independent judgment and initiative in carrying out assigned responsibilities. The primary duties are performed outdoors and within public facilities. Role is based out of Celebration ParkKey ResponsibilitiesGrounds & Housekeeping Management: Responsible for day-to-day maintenance operations, housekeeping and grounds keeping of assigned parks, buildings, resources, and trails Assesses maintenance, housekeeping, and groundskeeping needs of parks facilities and assets; tracks work activities and communicates needs in partnership with peers and other departments Completes maintenance tasks alongside part-time, seasonal, temporary staff, volunteers, and full-time team members to support operational needs Works collaboratively with external consultants and contractors performing work on park lands and facilities to ensure project alignment and site readiness Shares knowledge and promotes safe practices related to equipment operation, tools, maintenance procedures, and related activities Performs equipment and facility maintenance and construction work including basic carpentry, plumbing, electrical, irrigation, and general repairs Maintains accurate records, logs, and documentation related to operations, usage, incidents, and maintenance activities Supports camp-host operations at assigned locations and assists with user-fee collection processes as needed Budget & Inventory Control: Communicates timelines, needs (equipment & personnel) and expectations with Facilities Department as needed to ensure quality maintenance of assigned county park locations Research and purchase janitorial and maintenance supplies and materials as needed Tracks and inventories Park related assets/infrastructure as needed Tracks and manages expenditures to ensure budgetary compliance Safety & Risk Management: Responsible for risk and safety at park locations and facilities, ensuring that areas of potential safety hazards are checked regularly and any safety issues or potential risks are addressed immediately Communicates, tracks, reports, coordinates, and implements corrective action for hazardous and risky conditions Ensures facilities and grounds are maintained to provide for quality visitor experience and safe access to recreational opportunities such as but not limited to camping, hiking, boating, pathways, parking, and fishing Communicates and coordinates regularly with others to maximize the effectiveness, efficiency, and safety of interdepartmental operations and activities Implements and supervises Safety Risk Management including fire extinguisher checks, Materials Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) updates, Integrated Pest Management (IPM) and first aid kits Implements Wildfire Risk Management including fire restriction signs, fire pit checks, defensible space barriers, fine fuel removal, and chemical application Rule Enforcement: Works with local and partner law enforcement agencies to give warnings and report infractions, illegal activity and concerning behaviors Patrols parks to protect and preserve cultural, natural, and recreational resources from vandalism, theft, and abuse, paying special attention to archaeological resources Provides information and direction in a courteous and professional manner to visitors and the public regarding park facilities, rules, regulations, and general educational and recreational information Other Duties: Assists with grant project implementation, compliance and reporting as assigned Performs all work duties and activities in accordance with county policies, procedures, and safety practices Assists with search, rescue, and recovery operations as needed under the direction of trained enforcement staff and agencies Other duties as assigned Work Environment The Maintenance Technician works primarily outdoors in Canyon County parks, open spaces, trails, and public facilities. Duties are performed in varying weather conditions and may involve exposure to dust, noise, chemicals, fuels, and equipment-related hazards common to maintenance and grounds operations. The position requires physical activity including walking, standing, bending, lifting (up to 50 pounds or more), and operating hand and power tools, landscaping equipment, and light machinery. Work may occur at heights, in confined spaces, or near moving equipment and traffic. This role operates in a public-facing environment with regular interaction with visitors, volunteers, contractors, and County staff. Work schedules may vary as situations arise. QualificationsSkills and Abilities Methods, techniques, philosophy, and objectives of developing, managing, and operating park facilities and grounds Considerable knowledge to identify and care for plants Effective and best practice methods of safe and effective weed control, integrated pest management, fine fuel reduction, and defensible space Operate standard office equipment, communications equipment and a personal computer Communicate effectively, verbally, and in writing Maintain and organize records Maintain and organize workspaces and equipment Work independently as well as with other agencies and team members Ability to manage multiple tasks at once and reprioritize in order of importance Special Qualifications Idaho driver's license Experience performing basic construction, grounds, and building maintenance Experience operating and maintaining vehicles/trailers/specialized equipment Successfully complete a background investigation Available for after-hours on-call response to emergencies Education and Experience High School Diploma or GED equivalency Associate's degree in horticulture, landscape or natural resources management, park maintenance or related field preferred Two years' experience in landscape or parks maintenance or related field preferred Experience managing and coordinating staff and maintenance activities is preferred Essential Physical Abilities Clear speech with or without an accommodation, to effectively convey detailed or important instructions or ideas accurately, loudly and/or quickly Sufficient clarity of hearing with or without reasonable accommodation to enable the employee to hear average or normal conversations and receive ordinary information Visual acuity, with or without an accommodation, to read instructions, review, and organize documents Disclaimer: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the primary job responsibilities satisfactorily with or without reasonable accommodation.
