Constant interaction with internal and external customers to include patients, families, physicians, employees, and visitors. Assists in the coordination of patient care. Helps registered nurse in planning patient care. Collaborates with other health team members. Participates in performance improvement activities. Acts in the role of support during the surgical procedure but not as a surgical assistant. Creates and maintains asepsis. Performs scrubbing duties. Communicates patient information to appropriate persons. Accounts for all equipment and supplies used in patient care. Communicates with peers and other health team members, patients, and visitors. Maintains adaptability. Supports teamwork within the department and units. Resolves problems. Consistently meets the department's Customer Service Quality Standards. Performs clinical preceptor role for scrubbing by collaborating with the patient care coordinator, educator, or Clinical Nurse Specialist. Maintains cleanliness in the unit. Maintains and cleans equipment. Held responsible for the equipment use and care during surgical cases. Performs other job duties and responsibilities as required. Ability to communicate clearly. Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks quickly in a fast-paced environment. This position has limited access to medication rooms. Medications should not be handled at any time. Any questions should be directed to the supervisor or the charge nurse of the unit in question. Frequent standing for long periods of time, walking, bending, crouching, and stooping. Frequent lifting/moving patients. Intermittent lifting, moving, or carrying up to 50 lbs. Frequent pushing or pulling up to 50 lbs. Constant reaching with hands/arms and twisting. Frequent use of finger/hand dexterity. Frequent talking and/or hearing. Corrected hearing and vision to normal range. Exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissue. Possible exposure to infectious materials, communicable diseases, and other conditions common to a healthcare environment. Intermittent exposure to risk of exposure to blood-borne pathogens. Moderate to high noise level in the work area. Requires work under stressful conditions, deadlines, or irregular hours.
