Carpenter Co. has an immediate opening for an Environmental Health and Safety Manager (EHS) at our Tupelo/Verona, MS manufacturing plant. This position will provide professional knowledge and expertise in the administration and support of safety programs. Responsible for the overall coordination and implementation of safety programs to assure compliance with regulatory agency guidelines and the company’s policies. Carpenter Co. employees are committed to working hard to ensure production goals are met while maintaining operational excellence. As the successful candidate, you will maintain communication with vendors, Federal and State agencies as well as Carpenter Co personnel. As EHS Manager you must have excellent attention to detail to identify hazards. You will also need to be able to discover opportunities for improving conditions and execute various safety programs. The ability to communicate guidelines to a multidisciplinary workforce is essential. The goal is to ensure the workplace meets all legal expectations and actively supports occupational and environmental health and safety for the prevention of environmental and occupational injuries and illnesses. Your additional responsibilities as the Environmental Health and Safety Manager (EHS) will include: Develop and execute health and safety plans in the workplace according to legal guidelines. Prepare and enforce policies to establish a culture of health and safety. Evaluate practices, procedures and facilities to assess risk and adherence to the law. Conduct training and presentations for health and safety matters and accident prevention Monitor compliance to policies and laws by inspecting employees and operations. Inspect equipment and machinery to observe possible unsafe conditions. Investigate accidents or incidents to discover causes and handle worker’s compensation claims. Recommend solutions to issues, improvement opportunities or new prevention measures. Report on health and safety awareness, issues and statistics. Functional knowledge of Federal and State Safety/Health Laws, (i.e., OSHA). Skills/ RequirementsBachelor’s degree in Environmental Science or related field. 4+ years’ experience in environmental, safety, and industrial health management in a manufacturing setting. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Attention to detail is a must. Experience with MS Word and Excel. Strong organizational and negotiating experience. SAP experience is a plus.
