Maintenance Mechanic

More information is available at Abington Friends School seeks a skilled maintenance mechanic to join its team of full time, year-round staff. The ideal candidate would be proficient in one or more of the following trades: electrical, plumbing or HVAC. This is a great opportunity for someone looking for a stable, friendly work environment. Essential Functions Independently and as part of a team, performs a variety of maintenance activities (i.e., plumbing, electrical and HVAC). Operates various electric, gas and manually powered tools and equipment, i.e., saws, air compressors, blowers, drills, etc. Performs regular preventive maintenance and makes repairs within the scope of abilities. Assists with building maintenance and repairs, as required. Performs cleanup and worksite restoration activities. Performs grounds maintenance activities including snow removal Responds to and takes appropriate actions in the event of emergency or critical incidents to resolve, confine or prevent potentially injurious or hazardous conditions. Requests supplies as needed. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications High school diploma or GED is preferred as is relevant work experience. Demonstrated expert proficiency in one of the skilled trades Ability to operate standard maintenance-related equipment. Ability to apply common sense understanding and to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form. Ability to discern which people may need immediate assistance and to act accordingly. Valid driver's license. Ability to communicate effectively with all constituents in a school environment. Ability to work occasional evening and weekend hours to support special school events. Physical Requirements and Work Environment Tasks involve the ability to exert heavy physical effort in heavy work, including climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials weighing 20 to 50 pounds; may occasionally involve heavier objects and materials weighing up to 100 pounds. Tasks are regularly performed with potential exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as strong odors, fumes, dusts, wetness, humidity, machinery, vibrations, temperature and noise extremes, disease, pathogenic substances and toxic/poisonous agents.
