Salary: $20.60 Hourly Location : Hutto, TX Job Type: Temp Department: Public Works Division: Facility Maintenance Opening Date: 02/19/2026 Closing Date: 3/13/2026 11:59 PM Central FLSA: Non-Exempt Position Overview Title: Facilities Maintenance Technician - Temporary Department: Public Works Status: Temporary FLSA: Non-Exempt Important information for applicants: This is a temporary, 120-day assignment and is not benefits-eligible.POSITION OVERVIEW Under limited supervision, the Facility Maintenance Technician performs repair and maintenance activities relative to City buildings and facilities. Responds to service calls and completes work order requests for HVAC, plumbing, A/C, painting, and electrical issues. ESSENTIAL DUTIES Working knowledge of plumbing systems to support the maintenance and repair of faucets, garbage disposals, toilets, sinks, water heaters, drains, and showers Helps maintain the electrical systems of facilities by installing ceiling fans, and additional outlets and lighting fixtures; upgrades to new components; changes ballasts; replaces or resets time clocks and photo cells. Performs general services by installing and patching drywall; touch up and complete interior paint; troubleshoots and performs preventative maintenance; rearranging furniture and equipment as needed; maintains understanding of carpentry practices; installs flooring. Lays tile and repairs tile that has broken or become loose. Assists in moving furniture and other supplies. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES Knowledge of plumbing systems to be utilized for repairing and upgrading faucets; maintaining garbage disposals, toilets, kitchen bathrooms and sinks, water heaters, drain pipes, and showers. Knowledge of drywall installation and patchwork, lighting systems, generators, and electrical systems Skill in troubleshooting maintenance equipment Ability to communicate effectively Ability to prioritize tasks and manage daily schedule efficiently EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, LICENSES, & CERTIFICATIONS High School diploma or equivalent. At least two (2) years of experience in facility maintenance work or a position that required similar skill Must possess a valid Texas Driver's License and be eligible for coverage under the City of Hutto vehicle insurance provider Must pass an extensive personal background check and be eligible and able to meet all requirements for compliance with CJIS. PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING ENVIRONMENT While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
